"We're Winding Things Down": UP’s Beloved Jing’s Lutong Bahay to Close After 52 Years
But the team behind the Area 2 institution is looking at bigger, better plans.

(SPOT.ph) A collective "Oh, no!" from alumni, students, and friends of the University of the Philippines Diliman was heard around the Metro on Thursday, September 25—a fitting response to the Facebook post from Jing's Lutong Bahay announcing their closure, effective October 14.
The beloved eatery began over 50 years ago as a hobby and side business out of a home kitchen, serving students, professors, bar exam reviewees, and everyone in between over the years. Known for their fruit shakes and bilao orders, the J.P. Laurel Street institution vows to keep these popular items available while they transition to what they hope to be greener pastures.

According to the original post, the establishment cites the past year or so of "navigating through challenges," which was "exciting" but ultimately "not sustainable." Even the most dependable of dining spots, it seems, is susceptible to the unpredictable waves of change.
Those familiar with the Area 2 staple commented on the post in droves.
"We'll still be selling your favorites up to the last day," reads the farewell post dated September 25. As netizens leave their well wishes, Team Lutong Bahay reassures the public that this is not goodbye. (Watch this space, maybe!) In the meantime, they are still accepting orders via their social media page.
The Diliman campus of the University has long been considered an informal culinary destination, and one of many essential stops for any Quezon City resident.
