Bye, Apple Pie: McDo Releases New Choco Lava Puff and Taro Custard Pie

(SPOT.ph) Isn't it always that just when it feels like a familiar favorite is leaving a void, a fresh arrival comes along so you have another reason to indulge? While some endings are indeed bitter, a sweet new beginning has just hit the menus of McDonald's Philippines.

In a Facebook post, the fast food giant revealed that they will be serving their two new pies—Choco Lava Puff and Taro Custard Pie—in McDonald’s stores across the country beginning July 3.

If you’re still coming to terms with the end of an era (i.e., the departure of the beloved Apple Pie), those two new desserts that just might become your next comfort-food obsession, alongside a new savory snack for the non-sweet tooth community: The Poptato, a crispy-on-the-outside, fluffy-on-the-inside, bite-sized twist to the McDonald’s World Famous Fries.

These are just the new headliners for the Snack and Match portion of the Mcdo menu. “We know how merienda is an important part of our day, spending it with our loved ones. With that in mind, we’re introducing these exciting new Snack and Match offerings,” shares Ada Almendras-Lazaro, McDonald’s Philippines’ Chief Marketing Officer.

What that means for you is that, for as low as P59, you can enjoy any of the Snack and Match mains:

• NEW Choco Lava Puff

• NEW Medium Poptato

• Crispy Chicken Sandwich

• Cheesy Burger McDo

• McSpaghetti

• Regular World Famous Fries (Plain, McShaker BBQ or Cheese)

• Iced Coffee Original

But for P79, you can enjoy a snack combo by matching your main with any of these sides:

• NEW Taro Custard Pie

• A&W McFloat 16oz

• Coke McFloat 16oz

• Coke McFloat with Hot Fudge 16oz

• Royal McFloat 16oz

• Any soft drink(Coke/Coke Zero, Sprite, Royal, A&W) 16oz

• Plain Sundae

“With all these offerings, we’re excited to see how everyone, especially our Gen Zs, would be playful and create different combinations with our Snack and Match items. We look forward to our customers also making their merienda and snacking time ‘extra’ with Snack and Match,” adds Almendras-Lazaro.

We can confirm, it's definitely appealing to our childhood merienda memories. But we know what you all want to know: Just how good are the sweets replacing your beloved Apple Pie?

The triangular Choco Lava Puff is filled with rich molten chocolate that oozes with every bite, but chocolate lovers may be forced to resist; it's only available between the hours of 10:30 a.m. and 11:59 p.m. On the other hand, the Taro Custard Pie is available all day. It combines McDonald's signature golden crust with a velvety taro custard filling and taro chunks, bringing a familiar flavor to the beloved fast-food dessert lineup.
