(SPOT.ph) There’s something about the way traditional Japanese cuisine—also called washoku—embodies both simplicity and elegance in one go. And some places reliably nail the art of it every time. Over in Tokyo, there’s Ootoya, a popular restaurant chain that goes back to the late ‘50s, known for their balanced home-style cooking. They’ve got hundreds of locations spread across Japan, Thailand, Hong Kong, Taiwan, New York, Indonesia, and Malaysia—and soon it will be in the Philippines, too. Ootoya is opening their first outpost in the country in BGC.

Ootoya in the Philippines
Ootoya will be making its Philippine debut with a branch at the Grand Hyatt Manila Residences South Tower. Get excited, as this is slated to open later this month (well, later means this coming week because we're talking February). It definitely won’t be long before you can dive firsthand into the Ootoya lineup of teishoku (set meals), each of which includes steamed rice, miso soup, a main protein, and seasonal sides.

Ootoya is especially known for their fish and chicken dishes—think fish cooked over their charcoal grilling system (which uses gas heat, ceramic balls, and charcoal); demi-glace chicken cutlets; sautéed meats; and veg-heavy sides. Word is that many of the ingredients they will use will be brought in from Japan. All of that in a space (private rooms included) with a relaxed vibe and Ootoya is set to make for a reliable dining spot you can keep coming back to—whether you’re dining solo, out on a date, or celebrating with the fam.

You can thank Federal Brent Retail Inc., the lifestyle-oriented affiliate of the Federal Land Group, for bringing Ootoya to our shores.
Ootoya is opening at G/F Grand Hyatt Manila Residences South Tower, Bonifacio Global City. For more information, check out Ootoya Philippines’ Facebook page.
