Verdict: A match-a made in heaven for those who like uber milky matcha lattes.
(SPOT.ph) For as long as I can remember, the interest in matcha lattes (and everything else that has matcha in it) would fluctuate ever so often, but in recent times, I feel the tides have changed for good, in that matcha lattes are now widely accepted. It’s graduated from that “ew, lasang damo,” to “this doesn’t have enough matcha in it!”
While you can use SPOT.ph's Top 10 Matcha Lattes in Metro Manila as your map to finding the best matcha lattes (ones I've given the green seal of approval), there’s just bound to be new ones, what with the high demand on this tea... to the point that there’s now a matcha shortage in Japan, resulting in limited purchases.
Dunkin' has finally hopped on the trend after all the coffee creations for the past few months. If you're curious whether the multinational doughnut-coffee chain can also be known for yet another drink aside from their coffee, great news—the returning Matcha Latte is the subject of this Taste Test.

Dunkin’ having a creamy matcha drink on the menu isn’t technically new. In fact, you might be thinking you’re being gaslit when it’s referred to as “new” when, in fact, it’s more of a comeback. Dunkin' even had a 2018 promo wherein you could get a Matcha Latte for a discounted price of P20, down from its then-regular price of P70 for a hot cup of tea.
Makes you think, “What haffen, Vela?" Inflation happened, Bella—that and matcha usually comes with a heftier price tag. Case in point: Dunkin's Matcha drink is more expensive compared to most of the coffee drinks included in the beverage lineup.
Returning to the menu, Dunkin’s Matcha Latte is available hot and iced, priced at P145 and P170, respectively. A larger iced version costs P220, and there’s an ongoing promo that lets you get a large cup of Matcha Latte with a Classic Donut for P169—yes, one peso cheaper than if you buy the drink itself. It's a little surprising and questionable, but I'll gladly take a Bavarian-Filled Kreme Donut with my Iced Matcha Latte, please.

Much like everything else, matcha drinkers fall on a green spectrum: different people like their matchas in various shades. Some want it straight up, no frills, while others like it with sweet, milky, or both —and there's no shame in that. My cup of green tea (pun intended) is matcha-forward, the so-called "lasang damo" kind, and one using the right kind of sweetener and dairy to complement the tea because, yes, it 100% does matter.
Dunkin's version? While it does not taste like grass, it's clearly made for the "matcha girlies" (side note, that’s a gender-neutral term. Welcome to the Internet!). Dunkin's green latte is on the milkier side with a slight nudge of earthiness... just as long as you remember this important bit: Keep stirring in between sips. The matcha settles quite fast, and thanks to Dunkin’s opaque pink cup, you won’t see the green blob forming at the bottom until you're slurping air, opening the lid to see, wondering where the rest of your matcha latte went.
And just in case you're looking for microfoam, I did get my Matcha Latte with a bit of foam or bubbles, which interestingly held its shape quite well for 15 minutes or so. Impressive, even though there seems to be no whisking involved of any kind, which is a smart and obvious choice because of the establishment's fast-paced nature.

Going back to the "Can Dunkin's Matcha Latte make the matcha girlies happy?" The safe answer is: Yes—that is, if you like your matcha latte with a 1:2:3 earthiness-to-sweetness-to-milkiness ratio. This is obviously not for the purists chasing umami and ceremonial-grade depth matcha, but Dunkin' doesn’t pretend to be anyway. Dunkin's Matcha Latte is made to be convenient, accessible enough for sudden cravings, and it's the kind of matcha that pairs well with their doughnuts. Hopefully, Dunkin' can consider coming out with a matcha doughnut for a match-a made in matcha heaven.
