This Humble Turo-Turo in Quezon City Just Got a Michelin Bib Gourmand Honor

(SPOT.ph) The people behind Morning Sun Eatery woke up with a very good problem today. They didn’t expect this many customers on a holiday. The reason: just the night before it was one of 25 Filipino establishments given the Bib Gourmand honor at the first ever Michelin Guide awards in the Philippines.

Located in 120 J.P. Rizal, Project 4, Quezon City (its near PSBA and the Iglesia ni Kristo church in Aurora Bouelvard), Morning Sun Eatery is, according to its write up in the Michelin website, “a modest roadside eatery” that serves “rich-flavoured” and “authentic Ilocano comfort food” like pinakbet. “The place uses a turo-turo style of service, where diners pick their dishes from the counter before they’re brought to the table.”

Morning Sun Eatery has been serving the Project 4 community with top notch home style cooking since the 1990s. It also serves other Filipino favorites such as kilawin, laing, and pork barbecue. According to one of its fans online, the dinakdakan is also one of its popular dishes and is usually the first to run out among its offerings. They also serve an outstanding papaitan, and you can also just ask for a free papaitan soup and order another ulam. Fans also talk about their famous house blend vinegar “na puwede isabaw sa kanin.”

Named after the Michelin company maacpt Bibendum, the Michelin Bib Gourmand honors restaurants that serve quality, easy to recognize food at affordable prices. According to ABS-CBN News, the eatery had never seen as many as orders as they have today, and have already sold out most of its Ilocano dishes even before lunch time.
