Heads Up: The Bodyguard The Musical Is Hitting Up Makati's Newest Theater This Year

(SPOT.ph) It’s one of the biggest blockbusters of its time, and this September, you’ll be reminded exactly why as Whitney Houston’s iconic hits and the sizzling drama of The Bodyguard The Musical head to a Metro Manila stage.
Fans of the 1992 hit film starring Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner, assemble because 9Works Theatrical—the folks who brought us Liwanag Sa Dilim, Once on This Island, and many other local stage hits—just announced more details about the upcoming production. Check out all the deets we know so far about this show.

What is The Bodyguard The Musical all about?
For the uninitiated, The Bodyguard The Musical is a gripping blend of romance, suspense, and spectacular music based on the 1992 flick of the same name.

The musical reimagines the story of Rachel Marron, a global superstar being stalked by an obsessed fan, and Frank Farmer, the former Secret Service agent hired to protect her. As the danger intensifies, an unexpected romance blooms. But as an added twist, all the drama plays out set to Whitney Houston's amazing discography.
Fans of the late superstar singer better come prepared to bop as the musical features many of the icon's popular hits like Run To You, Saving All My Love For You, I Wanna Dance With Somebody, Queen of the Night, and many more.
This Philippine production is directed by Robbie Guevara, with musical direction from Daniel Bartolome. Meaning, we can expect powerhouse vocals, bold choreography, and a cast featuring a mix of local and international talent, delivering high-octane performances worthy of Whitney's attention from beyond. Ever since it was first staged in 2012—a few weeks after Houston's passing—the show has been a smash hit on London’s West End and staged in over 15 countries worldwide, and now Manila's turn.

But aside from catching The Bodyguard The Musical for the first time in Manila, audiences have one more thing to look forward to when they buy tickets for this show: The Bodyguard: The Musical will be held at Makati's newest stage, The Proscenium Theater in Rockwell.

The Proscenium Theater boasts a 16x16-meter stage, fully automated fly lines, and a dedicated orchestra pit. This venue is built for spectacle. Even the farthest seats in the Dress Circle are just 20 meters from the stage, so we can expect no bad seats in the house.

How to get tickets to The Bodyguard The Musical?
Tickets will officially go on sale this July 9, at 10 a.m. and will be available online and at TicketWorld outlets nationwide. While ticket prices haven’t been announced yet, we’ll be on the lookout!
