PETA's Walang Aray Is Coming Back—Here's What We Know So Far
Get ready to laugh and fall in love all over again.

(SPOT.ph) Just when you thought your 2025 theater calendar couldn’t get any fuller, another crowd-favorite show just announced a 2025 staging. We're talking about the Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA)'s hit musical comedy Walang Aray.
Yes, you read that right. The Rody Vera-penned show is back for another round of laughs and love starting this August. Check out everything you need to know about this year's run of Walang Aray.

What is Walang Aray about?
Walang Aray is all-original Filipino musical based on the 1902 sarsuwela Walang Sugat by Severino Reyes. Reyes' OG piece describes the Filipinos' struggles under 333 years of Spanish occupation and tackles the bravery of the Katipuneros and their victory in toppling colonial rule.
Walang Sugat's modern musical upgrade is courtesy of multi-awarded playwright, Vera, with its music and lyrics by Vince Lim. Vera's Walang Aray refreshes that narrative by highlighting romantic narratives and satirical storylines laced with social commentary.
In an interview with art+ magazine, Vera reveals that he originally wrote Walang Aray as a screenplay commissioned by award-winning filmmaker Jun Reyes. But unfortunately —or rather fortunately—the movie got shelved due to budget concerns.
It stayed locked away in Vera's repertoire until it was first staged in 2018 as an experimental show described as "fiercely irreverent, ferociously clever, and seriously hilarious farce." Today, it's one of the most loved theater shows, boasting several awards from Philstage's Gawad Buhay, including Outstanding Book for a Musical and Outstanding Original Score. Its latest staging in 2023 also garnered 10 awards from Broadway World Philippines and four awards from the Philippine LEAF awards, including Outstanding Musical Production.

PETA’s keeping the 2025 Walang Aray cast under wraps for now—but we’re manifesting that the next batch brings as much chemistry as the previous run's cast.
Back in 2023, the spotlight shone on the "Hottest Musical Love Team" KD Estrada and Alexa Ilacad, a.k.a. KDLex, who shared the roles of Tenyong and Julia with powerhouse theater talents Gio Gahol, Jon Abella, Marynor Madamesila, and Shaira Opsimar.

How to get tickets to Walang Aray This 2025:
If the trailer above got you excited, don’t wait—secure those seats now. Walang Aray runs from August 22 to October 12 at the PETA Theater Center in New Manila, Quezon City. If past sold-out runs are anything to go by, you’ll want to grab those tickets ASAP.
