Exchange Your Trash for Points You Can Spend on Groceries at These QC Pop-Ups

(SPOT.ph) If you’ve been looking for a reason to finally declutter—and maybe get rewarded for it—head over to Quezon City, where that stack of old papers, empty sachets, plastic bottles, and even online shopping packaging can earn you points for household essentials.

The Quezon City Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability Department is bringing its Trash to Cashback program to various barangays throughout September.

Launched in 2021, the program allows participants to exchange recyclable items like paper, plastic, and metal waste for Environmental Points (EPs), which can later be converted to cashback.

The Quezon City Trash to Cashback program accepts most household recyclables, including sachets, PET and HDPE bottles, receipts, office paper, cardboard, beverage cartons, bottle caps, cookware, and aluminum cans. Depending on the material, participants can earn from 0.25 EPs to as much as 33 EPs per kilo.

Before heading to a Trash to Cashback booth, though, participants must segregate their trash at home. Each exchange must weigh at least one kilogram to be eligible for cashback.

Participants must also register for a bXTRA account via bXTRA.com.ph/en/signup with a physical bXTRA card or an email address. The EPs earned from the exchange will be credited to the account.

The EPs you earn are credited to your bXTRA account, where you can use them as cashback for purchases from the Trash to Cashback Mart and bXTRA Philippines partner merchants. These include rice, eggs, canned goods, bread, fruits, vegetables, sugar, and toiletries. EPs can also be redeemed for utility bills such as electricity, water and internet service through the Bayad App.
