Got a Chinabank Card? You Can Now Add It to Apple Pay

Forgot your wallet but have your iPhone with you? Chinabank cardholders can now pay using Apple Pay, with supported credit and debit cards added straight to their Apple devices.

The whole thing works much like tapping a physical contactless card. Double-click the side button on your iPhone or Apple Watch, authenticate using Face ID, Touch ID, or your device passcode, then hold the device near the payment terminal.

You can use Apple Pay anywhere contactless payments are accepted, as long as the merchant also accepts your card’s payment network.

Setting it up takes just a few steps.

On your iPhone, open the Wallet app, tap the “+” button, and follow the prompts to add your Chinabank credit or debit card. Once the card is added to a device, you can start using Apple Pay right away.

Apple Pay can also be used on iPhone, iPad, and Mac for purchases in participating apps and websites. Instead of repeatedly entering your card number, billing details, or shipping information, you can check out using the information already saved to Apple Pay.

And yes, you’ll still earn the rewards and benefits that normally come with your Chinabank card when you pay through Apple Pay.

As for security, your actual credit or debit card number isn’t stored on your Apple device or Apple’s servers. Instead, Apple Pay assigns a unique Device Account Number, which is encrypted and stored in the device’s Secure Element. Every purchase also needs to be authenticated using Face ID, Touch ID, or your device passcode and uses a one-time dynamic security code.

The Chinabank rollout adds another Philippine bank to Apple Pay’s growing list of supported issuers following the service’s local launch.
