GCash's New Feature Lets You Receive USD And Convert to PHP When You Need It—Here's How
No need for a US bank account.

(SPOT.ph) Instead of losing money to platform fees and bad exchange rates, GCash users can now hold US dollars (USD) in the app—and convert them to Philippine pesos (PHP) only when they actually need the cash.
This is all done through GCash's US Virtual Account, a new feature built for Filipinos who get paid from the US—whether that’s from US employers, freelance clients, and even relatives abroad. It's powered by Meridian, GCash’s partner for managing the account, and works with common US payment services like Wise, Gusto, Payoneer, Deel, Upwork, Chase, and others.

That's great and all, but how does it actually work? Here’s a guide on how to open a US Virtual Account, receive US dollar payments, and convert them to PHP before withdrawing.

How to receive US dollars in GCash
To open a US Virtual Account, you need to be Fully Verified on GCash, have a valid government ID, be at least 18, and live in the Philippines. Once that’s out of the way, everything happens inside the app.
Open GCash, tap “View All,” then go to US Accounts. From there, you enter the International Accounts menu and tap on the US Virtual Account option. The app will show a few reminders and the terms of use. After proceeding, you’ll be asked to confirm your personal details, upload a clear photo of your valid ID, and complete a short selfie scan.
Processing should only take a few minutes, after which updates should appear directly in your GCash inbox or through push notifications. It's important to note that the US Virtual Account is not a bank account. This is the same reason GCash requires users to review and agree to Meridian’s separate terms and privacy policy before they can open the account.
In some situations, GCash may require extra documents before your account can be approved. This happens when Meridian needs additional proof to verify your identity, source of funds, or relationship with the sender. If that’s the case, you’ll receive an alert inside the app telling you there’s “one more step” left. The extra documents depend on your situation—it can be a payslip, an employment contract, a recent invoice from a client, a benefits letter, or even proof of relationship with the sender. You upload these through a support ticket and wait for review, which usually takes about 24 hours.
Once approved, the US Virtual Account sits inside your GCash app with all the info you need to start receiving money. Tapping the profile icon shows your account name, account number, routing numbers for ACH and wire transfers, and the address linked to your account. You’ll need to send all of them to your client, employer, or relative in the US. It’s important that they enter your name exactly as it appears in your GCash details, since even small errors can cause delays or stop the transfer from going through.
The speed and fees depend on how the sender decides to transfer the money. ACH transfers are free but usually take one to three business days to clear. Wire transfers arrive on the same day, but they come with a $15 fee that is deducted from the amount sent. There’s no limit on how much your US Virtual Account can receive, but once you turn those dollars into pesos, the standard wallet limit of P100,000 applies for fully verified users (but P500,000 for those with a GSave/GCredit/GCash Card or a linked bank account).

When someone tells you they’ve sent the money, the first thing to do is check your US Virtual Account dashboard. If nothing appears, confirm that they used the correct account number, routing code, and name spelling. If the money still isn’t showing up after 24 hours but everything looks correct, contact GCash support for help.
Converting your USD to PHP is straightforward. From your US Virtual Account dashboard, tap “Withdraw,” enter how much you want to convert, and check the rate shown onscreen. Because the conversion happens at the moment you withdraw, it follows whatever the market and GCash’s partner provider are offering that day. Once you’re good with the amount, tap “Next,” confirm the details, and finish the process with the authentication code sent to your number. The converted amount should appear in your main GCash wallet immediately.
Once the conversion is complete, the app shows a confirmation page so you’ll know instantly that the transfer went through. You’ll also receive two alerts: one in your GCash app inbox and another reflected in your transaction history. This makes it easier to track each withdrawal.
If a withdrawal shows as deducted from your US Virtual Account but has not appeared in your wallet, refresh your transaction history to check again. If the amount still isn’t there, GCash advises users to reach out to customer support for assistance.
