Onitsuka Tiger Goes for Another Twirl With This New Ballet Sneaker

(SPOT.ph) Ballet sneakers are far from out. Onitsuka Tiger says so. Following last year's Mexico 66 TGRS, which has now become a fixture in everyone's sneaker rotation, the brand is making another pirouette into the ballet-sneaker scene with a lace-up, ballet-style silhouette called the Gymnarina.

If you were trying to pronounce it like us, it's "jim-nah-ree-nah," or if you can't, maybe "your next favorite ballet sneaker" rolls off the tongue better. The Gymnarina features a slim silhouette that looks more like pointe shoes—meaning it's much more delicate, elegant, and with the sneaker component, comfortable at the same time.

It borrows details from the brand's cult-favorite Mexico 66 pairs, like the Onitsuka Tiger stripes on the side and even the heel flap.

For the Gymnarina, the upper is high-quality, soft leather with a stable, flexible outsole that guarantees comfort. Unlike the brand's previous ballet sneaker, the Mexico 66 TGRS, this style doesn't have scalloped straps above the upper—the wide opening will be connected by two types of shoelaces, which will come with the pair: one is flat shoelaces with metal aglets, and the other is satin ribbon shoelaces. Your shoe (and vibe) can switch between athletic and delicate with just the right laces.

The Gymnarina has five colorways, two of which are absolute standouts: the bold red and vivid blue, both with white stripes. If you want a more versatile pair, something that can easily match or make your socks stand out, check out the black colorway with white stripes.

According to Onitsuka Tiger, the Gymnarina will drop here in the Philippines around July to August, at Onitsuka Tiger stores in Greenbelt, Glorietta, and SM Mall of Asia, as well as online through their official store.
