Starbucks' New Collection Celebrates Local Pride With Mugs and Tumblers

There are only three items the Philippine Independence Day Collection. The lineup may be small, but they're big in appreciating local culture with rich details and delicate artwork. While the mugs are currently out of stock online, you still have the chance to cop them at your nearest Starbucks branch. Check out the designs below:

Starbucks' 12oz mugs are perfect for your hot coffee, with a wide opening to freely dip pandesal in. In this collection, one design—the Starbucks 12oz Bearista Filipiniana Philippines Mug (P1,095)—sees the Starbucks Bearista decked in a soft, two-toned green Filipiniana adorned with intricate floral patterns. The sampaguita detail is subtle, but historically significant. The Bearista model is holding a floral fan, and around its neck and hair are pearl jewelry. Talk about beauty in the details.

On the other hand, the Starbucks 12oz Bearista Barong Philippines Mug (P1,095) features the formal national attire for men, the Barong Tagalog. In this case, the piece's usual U-shaped embroidery detail is etched on the clear, glazed New Bone China ceramic. The Bearista is holding a Starbucks cup in one hand and is wearing our traditional headgear, the salakot, over its ears.

If you're one to bring your drink and Filipino pride anywhere, the Starbucks 16oz Domino Philippines Cold Cup (P1,595) is the perfect option. The clear, double-walled tumbler, which features a textured Filipino design pattern, is made for your cold and hot beverages on the go. It has a reusable straw (which is meant for cold beverages only), but the highlight is the unique dome lid that contains bits and pieces of what makes up our colorful culture and history, like the jeepney. There's also what seems to be Mayon Volcano at the back.
