One Night Only: Astrophotography, Stargazing + More at This Free Astronomy Fest This Weekend

Since April is Global Astronomy Month, local skywatchers are heading to the bay for a celestial celebration. And yes, casual cosmic enthusiasts are invited to join in. It’s the perfect excuse to escape the city lights for twinkling stars a few trillion kilometers away.

The sky is literally the limit on Saturday, April 25, as Stargazers Unite: The Global Astronomy Fest lands at the Ayala Malls Manila Bay. Here’s everything you need to know about this free one-night astronomy event.

Running from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., Stargazers Unite is a free-for-all gathering that brings together veteran skywatchers and curious minds in appreciation of the cosmos. The event is set to transform the open-air Garden Ring at Ayala Malls Manila Bay into a community observatory right in the heart of the metro. 

If you’ve never joined an astronomy event before, know that you won’t just be scanning the sky with the naked eye. The evening is packed with tech demonstrations and activities that make the experience far more immersive and educational than skywatching from your balcony. Attendees can dive into a dedicated astronomy exhibit, join themed games, or sit in on an astrophotography lecture to learn how to take crisper shots of the moon and stars.

For many, the highlight is the telescope viewing session. Through the powerful telescopes at the event, you can enjoy a closer look at the moon and heavenly bodies. Keep an eye out for any extra-bright “stars” as you scan the horizon; they might not be stars at all, but our planetary neighbors, Venus and Jupiter. April’s clear summer skies make it easier to see celestial objects, so it’s a great time to literally stare into space.

The festival is presented by Grimalkin Corporation and Celestron, a renowned telescope brand recognized by astronomy enthusiasts. They’re teaming up with the Philippine Astronomical Society, Inc., and Cutting Edge to ensure there’s plenty of expert guidance to go around.
