(SPOT.ph) Masungi Georeserve is giving us a very good reason to wake up in the wee hours of the morning.

On August 2, the park is hosting Birds and Breakfast, a one-day-only event made for anyone who enjoys a slow, quiet start to the day. It combines a gentle walk under the forest canopy with an introduction to Philippine birds—plus a yummy Filipino breakfast to cap it off.

Here is everything you need to know about Masungi’s special birding workshop.

Here's what going to happen at Birds and Breakfast

For Birds and Breakfast, the day begins at 4:30 a.m.—just before the sun rises.

Don’t let the extra-early call time scare you off; it is perfect timing to experience the forest as it starts to wake up. To help shake off the morning chill (and to awaken the senses), guests are given a warm cup of coffee or hot chocolate during the quick orientation.

After the orientation, guests will be guided on a gentle walk through the woods. You'll be split into small groups with a dedicated guide each: Tristan, the head of Masungi’s Discovery Trail, and Jolo, the head of the Origin Trail. Together, these passionate local conservationists lead a quiet, intimate search through the treetops for the park’s wild avian residents. The event is one that curious birding beginners, nature lovers, and experienced birdwatchers can enjoy.

Binoculars, trail mix, and wildlife encounters are all included in the P1,800 event fee. But be warned, sightings of specific species are never guaranteed, since the birds of Masungi are wild and free-roaming. Consider every single glimpse a lucky surprise. But it's not all about spotting these flying wonders. Along the way, the guides will speak on each species and its role in keeping our ecosystems healthy.

The experience doesn't end immediately after the walk. Once done with birding, guests will gather in the tranquil Garden Cottages for a traditional Filipino breakfast, where they can choose between ube champorado and arroz caldo. Both are served with seasonal fruits plus a glass of freshly brewed coffee, hot chocolate, or homemade Kayumanis tea.

To wrap up the experience, the morning will also include an engaging lecture on birdwatching in the Philippines. It is a great way to trade trail stories, make sense of the species you saw, and learn more about the birds that call our rainforests home.
