(SPOT.ph) Baguio is always a good idea. Whether you’re there for the food, the cool weather, or the simple pleasure of doing absolutely nothing somewhere far from the metro heat, the City of Pines is often an easy pick for a quick escape. Now, you can add getting lost among the trees to your Baguio itinerary.

Baguio Arboretum, a lush green space along Leonard Wood Road, will finally reopen to the public this October. It’s right in the city but takes you into the heart of nature, with trails winding through the forest, native flora, birdlife, and an elevated boardwalk that lets you walk among the treetops.

Here’s what to know about this tranquil green pocket in the country’s Summer Capital.

Starting October 19, visitors can finally explore the freshly renovated Baguio Arboretum and its new Baguio Arboretum Gallery. Located near the Botanical Garden and Teachers Camp, the site will open to the public at 9:30 a.m., after the city’s flag ceremony.

More than just a park full of trees, an arboretum is a living collection dedicated to the cultivation, study, and conservation of trees, shrubs, and woody plants. Baguio Arboretum is kind of like a “natural museum” in an urban setting, giving nature lovers a chance to experience native greenery up close.

One of the park's major highlights is the Boardwalk. The elevated walkway lifts visitors closer to the forest canopy, letting them walk beneath the pines, breathe fresh air, and spot wildlife along the way. As part of the renovations, the old wire railings were replaced with sturdier safety rails, offering better protection as you admire the surrounding greenery.

There’s definitely plenty to see while you walk. The renewed Boardwalk winds through the trees, offering a closer vantage point for observing the forest and its wildlife, including Baguio’s birds. If you’re interested in birdwatching, bring binoculars and keep your eyes (and ears) peeled for the Arboretum’s feathered residents.

Aside from the Boardwalk, visitors can also follow the Arboretum’s Eco Trail, marked by a wooden sign along the walkway. The trail leads deeper into the greenery, offering another way to explore the forest and take in the Arboretum’s plants and wildlife.

Located within the Arboretum itself, the Baguio Arboretum Gallery is operated by Haring Ibon. This one-stop shop features books, souvenirs, merchandise, and framed photographs of birds, flora, biodiversity, and Baguio's cultural heritage. It’s a fantastic opportunity to take a little piece of the experience home with you—along with the photos you must take to document the adventure, of course.

The Arboretum has been years in the making. Its opening was originally scheduled for September 2026, but a fallen tree damaged part of the newly built walkway in August, prompting repairs and a delay. The opening was eventually moved to October 19. From what we’ve seen so far, the wait seems worth it.

Entrance to Baguio City Arboretum

Entrance to Baguio Arboretum costs P100 per person.

The good news? Your ticket also gives you access to the Baguio Botanical Garden. The Boardwalk connects directly to the garden, so you can spend the day exploring both green spaces with a single entrance fee.

The Baguio Arboretum is located at 177 Leonard Wood Road, Baguio City. For more information, visit the official Baguio Arboretum Gallery Facebook page.
