One-Day-Only: Join This ‘Pay What You Can’ Zine-Making Workshop at the National Museum

(SPOT.ph) Chances are, your phone, laptop, and social media accounts are packed with photos—years’ worth of memories, milestones, and random moments that have quietly slipped from memory. What if you can make something fun and creative out of them instead of letting them gather digital dust? Check out this upcoming zine-making workshop, which will let you do just that.

Happening on June 27 at the National Museum of Fine Arts from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., the Center for Art, New Ventures, and Sustainable Development (CANVAS) is hosting a workshop to show you how to make a zine using your photos.

For this workshop, Photographer Mikki Luistro will share his tips and tricks for transforming individual photos into a story you can hold and flip through.

ICYDK, zines are small, handmade, and self-published booklets that you can make using images, text, and drawings to transform creative ideas and stories into a physical, shareable form. It’s quickly becoming a popular medium among today’s creatives, especially those who want to experiment with different materials and storytelling techniques to bring their creative ideas to life.

This specific workshop with Luistro and CANVAS will be done on a special pay-what-you-can basis, so you can create all you want without worrying about the cost. Participants of all ages can join the workshop, including kids accompanied by their parents or guardians. Snacks and materials for making the zines will be provided, but you can also bring paper-based items such as old printed photos, postcards, and magazine cut-outs to decorate your zines.

Want to make your photos more fun and personalized? You can also bring meaningful objects, such as small props or toys, as well as outfits or accessories to wear and photograph during the workshop. Perfect for making photobooth-style photos, if you ask us!

Cameras are optional, but smartphones or digital cameras that can transfer files online are recommended. So if you’re joining, start looking through your phone folders or camera files for your favorite snaps.
