Palawan Is Recognized as the World’s Best Island for Natural Wonders
It’s one of only two Asian islands to make Expedia’s 2026 Hot List.

(SPOT.ph) Palawan hardly needs another award—but it’s always nice to realize the world just can’t get enough of it. This time, Expedia is giving our Philippine paradise its well-deserved flowers.
The booking platform recently announced its 2026 Island Hot List, with Palawan nabbing one of the 10 coveted spots. Based on Expedia's flight search data, the annual list highlights the “Next Wave of island destinations gaining momentum,” spotlighting emerging places where travelers are going for natural beauty, cultural depth, and, occasionally, better value.
Each featured island earned a specific title highlighting what makes it special. Although it means many different things to many people, it is hardly a surprise that Palawan walked away recognized for its scenic natural beauty.
Palawan named ‘Best for Natural Wonders’ on the Island Hot List
From the secluded white-sand coves of El Nido to the underwater gems of Coron, we know exactly how lovely Palawan is. Obviously, Expedia agrees, describing it as a “natural fit for travelers chasing awe-inspiring scenery and discovery-led adventure.” The platform gave a nod to its iconic limestone cliffs, crystal-clear lagoon waters, and thriving marine ecosystems.
Palawan’s sheer beauty is enough to earn its stripes, but Expedia’s list also relies on data over vibes. The ranking was compiled by analyzing global flight search trends on the travel platform between September 22, 2025, and March 22, 2026, for trips planned throughout 2026. Findings were then compared to the same period the previous year.
"Islands don’t just satisfy the urge to get away, they can also be one of the smartest vacation values," says Melanie Fish, Head of Expedia Group Brands Public Relations, pointing out how travelers are opting for all-inclusive stays and bundled deals.
The recognition is even sweeter, considering only 10 islands were handpicked for the 2026 Island Hot List. Palawan placed 6th overall and is one of only two Asian islands to make the list, sharing the regional spotlight with Phu Quoc, Vietnam, which was named as “Best for Affordable Luxury.” Meanwhile, the top spot went to the Caribbean jewel St. Lucia, nabbing the title as the “Best for Romantic Escapes.”
