Heads Up: Direct Flights to Siquijor Start This December

(SPOT.ph ) Siquijor has seen a tourism boom over the past year, thanks in part to Anne Curtis’ social media-famous "fairy walk" at Cambugahay Falls. But there’s so much more to this island than just that one moment. From sun-soaked beaches and dramatic waterfalls that spill into cool water pools to a mystical culture that’s uniquely its own, Siquijor is a must-visit for any traveler with a sense of adventure.

And if you’ve been wanting to experience the island’s magic for yourself, here’s some good news: direct flights to Siquijor start this December. Gone are the days of solely relying on ferry rides to visit—Sunlight Air is officially launching non-stop flights to the island. Here’s what you need to know.

Starting December 15, Sunlight Air will launch flights connecting Manila and Cebu to Siquijor. Gone are the days when the only way to reach the island was through a four to five-hour ferry ride from the Queen City of the South. Once the route opens, there will be four weekly flights directly linking the two islands, with a total flying time of only one hour.

Manila-based travelers can still join in on the fun. They're also opening Manila-Siquijor flights (and vice versa), with a stopover in Cebu.

There will be four non-stop weekly flights servicing Siquijor. These will be on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.

• CEB- QUJ (Flight 2R 875)

  • ETD: 10:20 a.m.

  • ETA: 11:20 a.m.

• QUJ- CEB (Flight 2R 876)

  • ETD: 11:40 a.m.

  • ETA: 12:40 p.m.

Those coming from Manila will also have four weekly flights on the same days. However, these connect via Cebu, so flight times include transit times between Manila and Cebu.

• MNL- QUJ (Flight 2R 853 / 2R 875)

  • ETD: 6:35 a.m.

  • ETA: 11:20 a.m.

• QUJ- MNL (Flight 2R 876/ 2R 854) on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Sundays

  • ETD: 11:40 a.m.

  • ETA: 11:00 p.m.

• QUJ- MNL (Flight 2R 876/ 2R 854) on Fridays

  • ETD: 11:40 a.m.

  • ETA: 2:30 a.m. (next day)

The new flight route was announced as Sunlight Air welcomed the latest addition to its fleet—the 68-seater ATR 72-600. The aircraft will begin serving the Clark–Siargao, Siargao–Cebu, Cebu–Busuanga, and Busuanga–Clark routes. Whether it will also service the Cebu–Siquijor flights is still under wraps, but one thing’s clear: with more planes now flying to smaller regional airports, there are even more ways to explore the Philippines’ 7,641 islands.

Siquijor is at the southernmost tip of Central Visayas. For the longest time, the island has been shrouded in mystery with whispers about islanders practicing faith healing and witchcraft, but don't let this deter you from exploring the beautiful spot. The island is rich in natural wonders, including crystal-clear lagoons fed by nearby towering waterfalls, cliff-diving spots, lush forests, and thriving coral reefs.

Whether you’re in it for the beaches, the folklore, or the island’s easygoing vibe, one thing’s for sure—Siquijor has a way of casting a spell that'll keep you coming back for more.
