PSA: Simplified Requirements for a Korean Visa Are Extended 'til 2026

(SPOT.ph) Heads up, travel bugs: great news for your Korea plans. The South Korean Embassy has officially extended its simplified visa policy for Filipinos until December 31, 2026—so yes, your dream trip to visit and sightsee around, hunt down your K-drama filming locations, or maybe (hopefully) breathe the same air as your K-Pop bias just got a little easier.

This means eligible travelers can still apply with fewer requirements—as long as you meet the criteria, of course.

Back in 2024, the South Korean Embassy announced a simplified visa policy for Filipinos. Under the scheme, eligible travelers will no longer be required to submit multiple financial documents, such as bank certificates, bank statements, or Income Tax Returns (ITR). The good news is this policy has been extended for a year from January 1 to December 31, 2026.

This policy has been welcomed by travelers because, let's face it, compiling your financial documents can be one of the most tedious parts of the visa application process.

• Elected politicians: members of the Senate, members of the House of Representatives, governors, provincial board members, and mayors (city or municipality) and their immediate family members, such as parents, spouse, minor children, and spouse's parents.

  • For family members, submission of bank certificates, bank statements, and ITR is exempt for politicians and their family members. Other documents, such as proof of relationship, may also be required in place of this.

• Government officials: person with a rank higher than or equal to Assistant Secretary of the Executive Branch of the Philippine Government, Brigadier General of the Armed Forces of the Philippines/Philippine National Police (excluding those in acting duties), and their immediate family members, such as parents, spouse, minor children, and spouse's parents.

  • Note: It is necessary to clearly specify the affiliated organization, working period, position, and salary. If relevant information is omitted or cannot be verified due to a lack of contact with HR, the applicant may be disadvantaged.

  • For family members, submission of bank certificates, bank statements, and ITR is exempt for politicians and their family members. Other documents, such as proof of relationship, may also be required in place of this.

• Professional license holders: those holding a valid PRC license ID (IBP ID for lawyers) with a profession of physician, dentist, lawyer (including judge, prosecutor), certified public accountant, pharmacist, veterinarian, and their immediate family members, such as parents, spouse, minor children, and spouse's parents.

  • Note: a certificate of employment (original) and a copy of PRC license ID or IBP ID are required in place of the financial documents.

  • For family members, submission of bank certificates, bank statements, and ITR is exempt for politicians and their family members. Other documents, such as proof of relationship, may also be required in place of this.

Beyond these officials, there's one more eligibility category that's a bit more inclusive for the everyday Filipino. As of 2024, credit cardholders from specific banks and card types can also be eligible for the simplified visa application requirements.

Note that this policy only applies to principal credit card holders and their immediate family members, such as their parents, spouse, minor children, and spouse's parents.

In lieu of the financial documents, those with eligible credit cards must submit an original certificate of employment, a copy of their credit card(front only with complete information), and copies of the latest three months' credit card account billing statements.

Don't be mistaken. This policy reduces the paperwork required to obtain a visa. Just because you're exempted from presenting an ITR and other financial documents, that doesn't mean you no longer need to comply with the other requirements. You still need to submit all other generic visa requirements. You also have the option to still submit your ITRs and bank statements if you feel these will increase your chances of getting an approved visa.
