PSA: You Can Now Register for Quezon City's Free Japanese Language Classes for 2026

(SPOT.ph) Sure, a few arigatous and sumimasens will get you through a Japan trip—but if you’ve ever wanted to go beyond the usual pleasantries and actually speak the language to order food and ask for directions, you have to really start learning the language properly. And if you’ve been putting it off because classes can get pricey, here’s the good news: the Quezon City Public Library is offering free Japanese language classes. If you’re ready to move past tourist-level phrases and start building real language skills, this is a solid (and zero-cost) place to begin.

Here's what you need to know about this free learning opportunity.

The Quezon City Public Library has officially opened registrations for its online Japanese language classes for the entire year. This monthly offering happens on one Thursday each month from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. via Zoom. This two-hour session aims to teach basic Japanese to help you get started on your Nihongo learning journey.

This program was launched by the Quezon City Public Library in partnership with Jellyfish Education Philippines, Inc. in 2019 and has been continued ever since. This year, the QC Public Library is offering one two-hour online class per month through November, with 500 slots per class. Each class will cover the same foundational topics in Nihongo, so you only really need to attend one to get the full benefit. But hey, if you need a refresher, you're free to register again in another month. Just note that you'll most probably be taking the same class all over again, just with new classmates.

As the sessions are only two hours long, don't expect to become fluent in the language right after class. This course will only cover the basics of Nihongo. You'll need to sign up for more intensive learning sessions if you want to master the language. Despite offering only the basics of the Japanese language, participants in this online class will be given a digital certificate of participation, which you can use to boost your Nihongo street cred.

The best part about this is you don't have to be a Quezon City resident to avail of this free learning opportunity. As long as you're at least 18 years old and have a stable internet connection from your chosen device—be it a phone, laptop, or computer—you're welcome to sign up for these free Japanese language classes.

To register, simply scan the QR code above or fill out this Google form from the QC Public Library. They'll need your complete name, gender, contact number, organization, email address, and Zoom account information. Once done, wait for their email and reply with your attendance confirmation. Only 500 students will be accommodated at a time. Make sure to reply within 24 hours to secure your slot. Otherwise, it may be given to someone on the waitlist.

Registration is open until March 31, which means you have roughly two months to get your ducks in a row and secure your slots to this free e-learning opportunity.
