(SPOT.ph) This July, Trumpets Inc. brings back their hit Filipino musical about family, fate, and faith: Joseph the Dreamer. The reimagined Bible story returns for six shows only at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium, RCBC Plaza.

For the uninitiated, Joseph the Dreamer is the pop music glow-up of the Old Testament tale about Joseph, whose jealous brothers sold him into slavery before he, in time and true underdog fashion, rose to power.
First staged 36 years ago, in 1989, by the Christian theater group Trumpets Inc., the production has since become one of their signatures. The original playbook was written by veteran director, playwright, and Trumpets founder, Freddie Santos, inspired by American composer, musician, and choir director Cam Floria's cantata, Joseph, Whatever Happened to the Dreamer?
Although the material has been around for a while, this 2025 revival builds on the show's 2020 run, which was a dynamic reimagining by director Paolo Valenciano, with fresh musical arrangements by Myke Salomon. The duo and their creative team have added a more energetic and concert-like flair to the storytelling without losing its heart, making it perfect for younger audiences looking for modern takes on classics.

The Cast of Joseph the Dreamer
This limited run welcomes back familiar faces from past stagings; Sam Concepcion dons Joseph's signature technicolor coat once again as he reprises the titular role. He shares the costume and the honor with Joseph the Dreamer newbie, Jordan Andrews in select performances.
Joining Concepcion and Andrews onstage is Gary Valenciano, who has now graduated from playing Joseph back in 2000 to playing Jacob (Joseph's father).
Carlo Orosa jumps back into his role as the Pharaoh, alternating with Lorenz Martinez, who is also serving as an assistant director for this run.
Another familiar face returning to the Joseph the Dreamer stage is Kayla Rivera, who reprises her role as Joseph's high-born Egyptian wife, Asenath. She'll be sharing her leading lady status with GMA Sparkle artist and The Clash 2024 Winner Naya Ambi.

Here are the actors reprising their roles from the 2020 run of Joseph the Dreamer: Sam Concepcion as Joseph, Gary Valenciano as Jacob, Carlo Orosa as Pharaoh and Kayla Rivera as Asenath.
Pictured here are the alternate actors for Joseph the Dreamer—Jordan Andrews, Naya Ambi, and Lorenz Martinez—who will be sharing the roles of Joseph, Asenath, and Pharaoh with returning cast members Sam Concepcion, Kayla Rivera, and Carlo Orosa.
Joining them is Mateo Amper Jimenez, reprising his role as Joseph's youngest and only full brother, Benjamin; Jimenez alternates with Fil-Am performer Ken San Jose. Sharing the role of mother Rachel—arguably the most vocally challenging part in the entire show—are singer and stage actress Julia Serad, and Miss Saigon alum and lead of Isang Himala, Aicelle Santos.

The complex family dynamics, conflict, and betrayal within Jacob's line are brought to life by RJ dela Fuente, Matthew Barbers, Carlos Canlas, Paul Valdez, Jim Ferrer, Renz Bernardo, Luis Marcelo, and Sam Panlilio, who each play one of Joseph's conniving, jealous brothers who sell him into slavery.
Here are the men playing Joseph's jealous brothers in the 2025 run of Joseph the Dreamer: RJ dela Fuente, Matthew Barbers, Carlos Canlas, Antonio Valdez, Jim Ferrer, Renz Bernardo, Luis Marcelo, and Sam Panlilio.
Aldo Vencilao and Dippy Arceo will play Mr. and Mrs. Potiphar, Joseph's Egyptian master and the savvy vixen who becomes the subsequent cause of his imprisonment. Clave Sun and Liam Nery share the role of Manasseh and the young Joseph.

Rounding out the cast is the ensemble, featuring Iya Villanueva, Sheena Lee Palad, Kathleen Francisco, Coleen Paz, Dani Solis, and Justine Narciso.

Joseph the Dreamer show schedule:
Joseph the Dreamer will run for a strictly limited season from July 11 to 13 and July 18 to 20 at Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium, RCBC Plaza.
Shows on the 11th and 18th will be at 8 p.m., while weekend shows will have two seatings, one at 3 p.m. and another at 8 p.m.
We're just a few days away from opening night, and if you're still planning to buy tickets for the show, you might want to think again. As of writing, Trumpets has officially announced that the show is completely sold out. So unfortunately, if you didn't heed the call to catch the musical early on, you're going to have to wait for a rerun to catch this inspiring musical on stage. But aren't we free to dream that they add a couple more shows?
