It’s Friday night. You work in Makati or in BGC and you’re already feeling that numbness and dread knowing that your drive home from the CBD will be several hours of stepping on the gas, stepping on your brakes, beeping your horn, gripping your steering wheel, gritting your teeth, and wishing ungodly harm on every swerving SUV or streaking motorcycle that comes into your lane.

Give yourself some respite from the maddening roads at High Street Cafe at Shangri-La at the Fort. There are nine stations that serve Western, Pan-Asian, Chinese, Japanese, Mediterranean, and rotisserie dishes, and you'll have plenty of options from the seafood bar, salad bar, and dessert station. But just in case you're not sure what to go for, here are six of the must-try picks from the buffet.

Molten Lava Cake
A moist lava cake made from locally sourced cacao that is surely to die for!

Samui Salad
Hailing from Thailand, this elusive number is a show of bold, citrus flavors.

Kiss My Beef Cheeks
Slowly braised for 24 hours in special jus with red wine, bay leaf and baby shallots, this dish will make you happy that you killed some time away from the heavy traffic. It’s a savory and comforting meal. The tender and juicy beef will have your mouth watering with every flavorful bite.

Uncle Ng's Laksarap
High Street Cafe’s traditional Malaysian noodles with prawns, chicken, tofu puff, fish balls and Vietnamese mint is a comforting combination of sweet, sour and salty.

Seafood Bucket List
It’s a special that they offer at the seafood station where guests can ‘scoop’ seafood into a bucket (e.g. crab, shrimp, scallops) and they can choose from five different sauces to accompany it with. The bucket is brought to the Wok (Oriental) Station to be cooked and then will be hand-delivered to the ordering guest. It’s a special that is only offered during dinner time.

Churrasco Wagyu Rump
Meat lovers, rejoice! You can get this succulent wagyu beef freshly sliced from the skewer. The Sante Fe dry rub is a tantalizing complement to the beef's perfectly smokey char—don't be surprised if you end up asking for seconds.
