Churreria La Lola Returns With a Sweet Vengeance: 8 New Dips, Savory Churros + More

(SPOT.ph) There are things that don't need to come back into our lives, e.g., toxic exes and shady government officials. On the flipside, there, too, are entries on our wishlist that we're longing to reunite with. And as luck would have it, Churreria La Lola—the brand that once had us all walking around with gigantic paper cones filled with crisp-on-the-outside, fluffy-on-the-inside churros—has finally returned.

After disappearing from the local scene for a bit, La Lola is ready to serve churros once more—and this time, with several new dips that will test your indecisiveness. Plus, a savory churro, snackable churro option, and an expanded beverage selection have been added to the menu, too.

Churreria La Lola is back in the game. The homegrown brand under The Bistro Group has opened its first standalone flagship at Evia Lifestyle Center—right on the ground floor next to The Atrium.

The menu reads like a nostalgic, greatest-hits playlist. There’s the iconic La Lola Cone (P120), four mini churros tossed in sugar and served with your choice of dip. For solo snacking, you can go for a single stick, priced at P75 for a 30-centimeter version, and P90 if you’re going all out with 60 centimeters of churro-goodness.

Of course, La Lola doesn’t stop at churros. Their Soft Serve Ice Cream with Churros (P145) gives you two-fold contrast—hot and cold, sweet and salty. It's got creamy vanilla soft serve in a cup; two pieces of churros poking out; and and your choice of drizzle: Salted Caramel Cloud, or Chocolate Fudge.

When it comes to the chocolate-forward options, the best is the Belgian Chocolate, classic, no-frills, and no-fuss; and coming in close at second spot is Auro Chocolate from proudly local chocolatier Auro. The Milk Chocolate and Mocha are good too, but these are slightly sweeter, while the Choco Peanut has a nuttier profile

As for the other dips, the Ube and Matcha taste just like white chocolate with ube and matcha flavoring. It's not the annoying type of artificial flavoring, thankfully. Lastly, the salty-sweet options like Salted Caramel and Salted Egg.

If you're feeling overwhelmed with all the choices, or don't have the budget to try all nine dips, our top five favorites include the Belgian Chocolate, Auro Chocolate, Milk Chocolate, Ube, and Matcha.

The new churros on the menu are Churro Bites, which are bite-sized churros that make it easy for snacking and sharing. And if you don't have a sweet tooth, the new Churro Dog is a great option that's more savory than sweet. This uses the signature churro twirled, hugging skewered Japanese hot dogs. It's drizzled with tomato ketchup and yellow mustard, adding a sweet and tangy layer to each bite.

All the coffee drinks on the menu—all except for the Cafe Americano (P95/hot or iced) and Cafe Latte (P145/hot or iced)—are new additions waiting to be explored. Options include the Cappuccino (P145/hot or iced), Spanish Latte (P165/hot, P145/iced), Creme Brulee Latte (P155/hot, P165/iced), Vanilla Cinnamon Latte (P155/hot, P165/iced), Sea Salt Caramel Latte (P165/hot, P195/iced), Double Dark Mocha (P165/hot, P195/iced), and Hazelnut & Chocolate Boba (P245).

Thankfully, the Yakult Iced Tea (P120) is still on the fruit-based drink menu. Joining this bestselling drink are newcomers such as the Mango Milk Cloud (P195), Calamansi Burst Tea (P145), Passionate Peach Tea (P165), Strawberry Dream Tea (P165), and Lychee Berry Tea (P165).

Churreria La Lola’s return is basically a lesson on patience—and proof that some cravings never really die, they just go on a hiatus before making a comeback. But now that they’re back, they didn't just reunite us with our favorite churros; they’ve extended the menu with savory twists, cups of joe, and a dip lineup long enough to keep you coming back for more.
