GUIDE: How to Renew Your NBI Clearance on Your Phone

(SPOT.ph) A National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) clearance is one of the most important documents you’ll need when applying for a new job, visa, or other official requirements—which is why getting one can feel like its own full-time job. If you've ever had to block out an entire morning just to wait in line for that document, we’ve got good news.

Getting an NBI clearance may now be faster because the process is already built into the eGovPH app, with the agency saying it can take as little as five minutes.

The eGovPH app used to redirect users to the separate NBI website, but the newly launched NBI eClearance is now fully integrated into the app starting July 6, 2026.

Here’s what you need to know before trying this new digital shortcut.

There are two specific requirements before you can renew your NBI clearance on the eGovPH app.

First, you need to be a verified eGovPH app user. This means your account has already completed the necessary steps, like national ID or video verification. If you don’t have an account yet, download the app from the Play Store or App Store, sign up using your mobile number, and enter the one-time password sent via SMS.

Second, you must be renewing an existing clearance. The digital service relies on matching your data against NBI’s existing database. If you are applying for your very first NBI clearance, an in-person appearance at a branch is still required for initial biometrics and fingerprinting.

Once both steps are cleared, applying for a renewal on the eGovPH app is pretty straightforward. Here is the exact step-by-step process:

1. Open eGovPH: Log in and navigate to the NBI Clearance section under government services.

2. Review your details: The app will pull up a digital copy of your existing NBI clearance. If it’s already past its shelf life, you’ll see a large “EXPIRED” stamp superimposed over it. Double-check that all your records on file are up to date. If everything looks accurate, click “Renew clearance” at the bottom.

3. Choose how to receive it: The app will ask you to choose between “Door-to-Door Delivery,” which adds a shipping fee, or “For Pick-up,” which is free but requires you to drop by the main or satellite office to claim the physical copy.

4. Fill out the delivery details: If you opted for delivery, the next screen will prompt you to input your exact shipping address.

5. Check the total fee: The standard NBI clearance fee is P130, plus a P30 convenience fee. If you choose delivery, an additional courier fee will be charged: P200 for NCR residents and P350 for those outside the Metro.

6. Settle payment: The app gives you plenty of flexible payment methods, including GCash, Maya, ShopeePay, credit and debit cards, online banking, or over-the-counter channels like 7-Eleven. Once you pick one, the app will generate a reference number for the transaction. 

7. Wait for your NBI clearance: Once your payment clears and the NBI system processes the renewal, it’s just about waiting for delivery or picking it up at the office. A verified digital version will also be linked right inside your eGovPH app, replacing the one that expired.
