Bye, Mt. Kamuning: Construction of New, Pedestrian-Friendly QC Footbridge Begins
Hopefully, the new footbridge won't be as challenging a "hike."

(SPOT.ph) Department of Transportation (DOTr) secretary Vince Dizon announced that construction on the new Kamuning Footbridge starts today, August 14, 2025. Just a little over two months since President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. ordered the demolition of the infamous Mt. Kamuning Footbridge, called thus due to its steep steps, QC folks are finally getting a more pedestrian-friendly version.

The Kamuning Footbridge construction covers not just the rehabilitation of the structure itself, but also the GMA-Kamuning EDSA Busway station.
"We really wanna do more and we just have to find a way to make the daily lives of our commuters, pedestrians easier," said Dizon of the revamp, noting that he and Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte realize how difficult it truly was for anyone to access the footbridge and the busway station.
What to Expect of the New Kamuning Footbridge
The Design and Build of the Kamuning Footbridge and Busway Project, as it is called on the DOTr website, will cost P89,129,402.57. The project was awarded to Unimasters Conglomeration, Inc. - Dragonheart Construction Enterprise, Inc., Joint Venture. It will feature independent footbridges—on the northbound and southbound sides—and both will be equipped with elevators, covered stairways, and wheelchair lifters.

The proposed plan also indicates that sufficient clearance spaces for sidewalk pedestrians will be accounted for, as well as well-lit walkways.

When will the footbridge and busway be completed? "The target is to finish both the footbridge and the station by December. That's our promise," Dizon says.

In line with QC's Inclusive Mobility Infrastructure Program
Mayor Joy Belmonte also echoed sentiments of wanting to improve infrastructures for all pedestrians—able-bodied or otherwise. The proposed conceptual plan reflects this, as both northbound and southbound footbridges have, as previously stated, provisions for elevators and wheelchair lifters.

Speaking of the "Mt. Kamuning Footbridge," Mayor Belmonte told media: "At the end of the day, that is not acceptable to us because it's inconvenient, it's uncomfortable, and it's not inclusive. It leaves out many vulnerable sectors and that is contrary to our vision of an inclusive mobility infrastructure program, so kailangan mawala 'yan."
