Diokno Boulevard Is Closed on Multiple Weekdays for Senate Impeachment Trial

(SPOT.ph) Passing through Pasay City in the coming weeks? Heads up: A portion of Diokno Boulevard will be closed on several days for Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial.

The Pasay Traffic and Parking Management Office announced that Diokno Boulevard will be impassable from Seaside Boulevard to Atang Dela Rama Street from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on affected dates, starting July 6.

Today is only the beginning of detours, as road closures will take effect whenever the hearings are scheduled on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. It is held at the Senate Session Hall in Pasay City.

In other words, this will not be a one-day traffic adjustment. Under the pretrial order signed by Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian, the impeachment trial will last for a total of 92 days. It begins from July 6 to 22, then resumes from July 28 onward under a new Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday schedule.

The 92-day schedule is divided into 30 trial days for the defense and 62 trial days for the prosecution.

Drivers are advised to pass through Macapagal Boulevard as an alternate route and follow the directions of traffic enforcers in the area.

Overall, Duterte is facing four articles of impeachment. The first article involves the alleged misuse of P612.5 million in confidential funds by the Office of the Vice President (OVP) and the Department of Education (DepEd) from 2022 to 2023.

Article II covers allegations of unexplained wealth and concealed assets, while Article III involves accusations of corruption and bribery through alleged monetary incentives given to DepEd officials.

For Article IV, the trial will tackle Duterte’s alleged threats against President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and former House Speaker Martin Romualdez.
