EDSA Busway to Open Three New Stations by 2026

Alongside upgrades to existing stations under the DOTr’s rehabilitation project.

(SPOT.ph) If you're one of the 250,000 people who rely on the EDSA Busway every day, you'd be happy to know that big changes are on the way. The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is rolling out a P212 million rehabilitation project that will upgrade four existing stations and build three new ones, promising to make commuting faster, safer, and more comfortable.

The upgrade is divided into two phases. Phase 1 will focus on the Monumento, Bagong Barrio, North Avenue, and Guadalupe stations. Key improvements across all stations include widening of platforms, replacing aging facilities, restoring essential equipment, and adding security posts for guards, janitors, and traffic officers.

Meanwhile, Phase 2 will add three new stations—two at the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) and one in Cubao—with work set to be completed by the second or third quarter of 2026.

In addition to the station expansions, new vertical louvers will be installed to provide shade and protection from the sun, tactile paving surfaces for the visually impaired, and enhanced signage and wayfinding, including updated transit maps and fare matrix guides.

EDSA Busway upgrades in recent months

Commuters in Quezon City have already had a taste of these upgrades. SM North EDSA’s new busway concourse opened last March, offering passengers a sheltered, more convenient transfer point.

A similar setup is on the way at SM Megamall in Mandaluyong, where a busway concourse and station are now under construction. The project will feature a covered walkway linking the busway to Megamall Building A. To make way for the build, temporary traffic changes are in place from August 9, 2025 to October 18, 2025: partial lane closures from Monday to Thursday, and full road closures from Friday to Sunday, all between 1:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. The EDSA Busway itself will remain operational 24/7 throughout the construction.

A total of 18 elevators across six stations with tall footbridges were also repaired last May. Each station now has three working elevators to help commuters—especially senior citizens, pregnant women, and persons with disabilities (PWD)—navigate the elevated platforms with more ease. The repairs were prompted by President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.’s directive to the DOTr to improve accessibility in public transport, especially for vulnerable groups.

The EDSA Busway runs from Monumento in Caloocan City to the PITX in Parañaque City.
