Here Are the Adjusted LRT and MRT Hours for the 2025 Holidays

(SPOT.ph) If you’ve stepped outside at any point this month, you already know December traffic has gone from bad to worse. After this weekend's incident in Antipolo—yes, the one where Marcos Highway turned into a parking lot for hours—it’s clear people need better ways to get around that don’t involve another private car on the road.

In response to this, LRT-1, LRT-2, and MRT-3 will be adjusting operating hours in light of the upcoming Christmas and New Year celebrations. Expect slight changes in the schedule starting December 9, 2025 to January 1, 2026.

Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Giovanni Lopez assured the public that maintenance checks will continue as usual throughout the extended operations to ensure commuter safety: “Ang sabi sa atin ng Pangulong Marcos, Jr. dapat mas maraming pasahero ang maserbisyuhan natin ngayong magpa-Pasko. Tinitiyak naman natin sa mga pasahero na kahit extended ang service ng LRT-2, masusi pa rin ang ating maintenance at safety routines sa mga tren at mga riles.”

Make sure to schedule those holiday shopping, family gatherings, and other festive activities properly if you want to catch the last train home.

LRT-1 will run on extended hours on December 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, and 25, with later last trips to accommodate the holiday rush. Operations will be shortened on December 24 and December 31, when trains will stop significantly earlier than usual.

From December 26 to 30, as well as on January 1, 2026, LRT-1 will follow its regular schedule, with no extensions or early cutoffs in effect.

December 18, 19, 22, and 23

• Last trip from Dr. Santos: 10:45 p.m.
• Last trip from Fernando Poe Jr.: 11:00 p.m.

December 20 and 21

• Last trip from Dr. Santos: 10:15 p.m.
• Last trip from Fernando Poe Jr.: 10:30 p.m.

December 24

• Last trip from Dr. Santos: 8:00 p.m.
• Last trip from Fernando Poe Jr.: 8:15 p.m.

December 25

• Last trip from Dr. Santos: 10:15 p.m.
• Last trip from Fernando Poe Jr.: 10:30 p.m.

December 31

• Last trip from Dr. Santos: 7:00 p.m.
• Last trip from Fernando Poe Jr.: 7:15 p.m.

January 1, 2026

• Last trip from Dr. Santos: 9:30 p.m.
• Last trip from Fernando Poe Jr.: 9:45 p.m.

That Antipolo nightmare set the stage for LRT-2’s extended hours. The line will run longer starting December 9, including on Christmas Day. The usual 9 p.m. (Antipolo) and 9:30 p.m. (Recto) last trips get stretched by another hour under the updated schedule.

However, the line will close earlier than usual on Christmas Eve—and even earlier on New Year’s Eve. Regular operations will resume on January 1, 2026.

Starting December 9, including December 25

• Last trip from Antipolo: 10:00 p.m.
• Last trip from Recto: 10:30 p.m.

December 24

• Last trip from Antipolo: 8:00 p.m.
• Last trip from Recto: 8:30 p.m.

December 31
• Last trip from Antipolo: 7:00 p.m.
• Last trip from Recto: 7:30 p.m

MRT-3 is likewise adjusting its operations on December 24 and 31. The line opens earlier than usual but closes significantly earlier than its standard hours, which normally reach around 10:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. depending on the station. Evening commuters will definitely need to plan around the shorter service window.

On Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, MRT-3 flips the pattern. The line starts later than its normal morning opening, but the evening cutoffs stay closer to its regular hours.

December 24 and 31

• First trip from North Avenue: 4:30 a.m.
• First trip from Taft Avenue: 5:05 a.m.
• Last trip from North Avenue: 7:45 p.m.
• Last trip from Taft Avenue: 8:23 p.m.

December 25 and January 1

• First trip from North Avenue and Taft: 6:30 a.m.
• Last trip from North Avenue: 10:30 p.m.
• Last trip from Taft Avenue: 11:09 p.m.
