Digital Senior Citizen IDs Must Be Accepted for 20% Discounts, NCSC Tells Establishments

(SPOT.ph) A senior citizen should not have to argue at the counter just to get a discount, benefit, or priority accommodation—so here’s the reminder from the National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC): the digital National Senior Citizens ID (NSCID) should be accepted as valid proof of identity, too.

Under NCSC Public Advisory No. 1, Series of 2026, the digital NSCID available through the official eGovPH app may be used to avail of the 20% discount and VAT exemption on medicines, food, transportation, and other covered goods and services.

“The digital National Senior Citizens ID is an official and legitimate government-issued identification designed to make services more accessible and convenient for our senior citizens,” NCSC Chairperson Atty. Ma. Merceditas Gutierrez said in a statement. “We call on all institutions and establishments to accept the digital NSCID in accordance with the law.”

Senior citizens can check their digital NSCID by opening the eGovPH app on their phones, which can be downloaded from the Play Store or App Store if they don't have it yet.

According to the NCSC, the ID should automatically appear in the app for users who are at least 60 years old, have a National ID, and already have a valid senior citizen record with their local government unit.

If it's not showing up yet, that likely means your details still need to be verified or updated. The NCSC said senior citizens should go to their Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) for verification. The same applies if the information on the digital ID is wrong. Coordinate with your OSCA and bring your physical Senior Citizen ID, along with other required documents, so your data can be corrected.

One important note for those worried about signal: the digital ID needs internet access to be opened and updated through the eGovPH app. However, users are always free to take a screenshot and present it when needed, as long as the details are clear.

It should go without saying that this is non-transferable, so no, relatives cannot borrow it to claim discounts on the senior citizen's behalf.
