Metro Manila Approves Ban on Street Parking—Which Roads Are Covered?
The list runs from España to Marcos Highway.

(SPOT.ph) The days of leaving
your car wherever you feel like it are numbered. The Metro Manila Council
(MMC) has just approved a sweeping parking ban on the busiest roads across
the region. Here's what you need to know.
MMDA Regulation No. 25-001
prohibits parking on 25 major roads, including EDSA, Roxas Boulevard, C.M. Recto
Avenue, España, Commonwealth, Ortigas Avenue, Quezon Avenue, Marcos Highway,
Taft Avenue, and Alabang-Zapote Road, among others.
Secondary roads won’t be
completely off-limits, but they’ll come with strict time windows: no street
parking from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., the peak hours when traffic
is at its worst. Local government units (LGUs) will still decide which smaller roads can be
used for parking outside those times, but the blanket rule during rush hour
applies across Metro Manila.
As for where parking will still
be allowed, that will also be up to the LGUs.
“LGUs will determine what roads
where parking will be allowed, which have less foot traffic and won’t cause
obstruction to traffic, especially emergency vehicles,” MMC President and San
Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora said.
Although the rules are pretty much finalized, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said that the target implementation is set to begin before the Christmas season.
Penalties will apply once the ban is enforced, so the safer bet is to find legal parking or risk being fined under the Metro Manila Traffic Code of 2023. If you’re caught illegally parked
with the driver around, that’s a P1,000 fine. Leave your car unattended and it
doubles to P2,000, plus the risk of being towed and impounded. On top of that,
there’s an P80 per day storage fee if your vehicle ends up in the impounding
area.
