Animal Rescue Group Receives Amusing Donation From 'Heated Rivalry' Characters

(SPOT.ph) Turns out even fictional hockey rivals can agree on one thing: helping animals. Animal rescue group Strays Worth Saving (SWS) amused the internet after it received a donation credited to none other than Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov, the two lead characters of gay hockey show Heated Rivalry.

Last December 27, SWS shared a certificate of donation on Facebook, thanking the two “donors” for P2,481. Fans were quick to do the math: 24 and 81 happen to be Hollander and Rozanov’s jersey numbers on the ice, too. Of course, the help is not actually from them—it's quite common for donors to use fictional characters or celebrity names to stay anonymous, especially in fandom-driven gestures like this one.

As of writing, the post has received over 5,300 reactions and 1,000 shares on Facebook. Many joked that this seemed to be the charity project that the couple planned toward the end of the show’s first season.

“Ito na pala ‘yung charity,” one user commented.

Adapted from the novels by Rachel Reid, Heated Rivalry follows two rival hockey players whose intense on-ice competition hides a long-running, very secret relationship. The story leans hard into the enemies-to-lovers trope, with much of the tension coming from how public the rivalry is—and how private everything else has to be. The six-episode series was first released on Canadian streaming platform Crave, before reaching a much wider audience when it was picked up by HBO Max.

Heated Rivalry started streaming on HBO Max in the Philippines on December 19, 2025.
