He's out there putting the 'puso' in Kapuso.

(SPOT.ph) Typhoons Crising and Dante are no joking matter, as both have brought in enough rains to flood major thoroughfares in Metro Manila and many parts of Luzon. But in true Filipino fashion, it seems like it is inevitable for us to find some levity as we endure these tropical storms. Enter: GMA Integrated News reporter Nico Waje, who seems to be following in the footsteps of Steve Dailisan and Atom Araullo (IYKYK).
Enter also: the thirsty commenters in Nico's Tiktok news reports.
Who Is Nico Waje?
Nico Waje became a GMA Integrated News reporter in October 2019, but his career in GMA Network Inc. started with him as a segment producer in October 2015. And while he is actually an award-winning news reporter—snagging two silvers in the 56th Anvil Awards and another in the 58th—he shot to Internet fame during his coverage of tropical storms Crising and Dante.
Armed with his camera (and accompanied by his equally hardworking camera crew), Nico inadvertently captured the hearts of netizens as he delivered news reports from waterlogged streets in Metro Manila and even braved flooded areas in Bulacan and Pampanga. Aside from—dare we say—his looks, it is Nico's reporting that further drew his fans to him like a magnet: it is steadfast, consistent, and detailed, and though he is delivering literally gloomy news, the register of his voice comes across as warm and reassuring.
However, Nico hasn't always been the heartthrob that the Internet has declared him now. In a recent Tiktok post, he shared how he lost 12kg in weight. He showed photos of him at his heaviest at 82kg, explaining that he had gained the weight after having been rendered immobile from an ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) tear. Through persistence, discipline, diet, and exercise, Nico managed to regain the healthier, athletic build that has not gone unnoticed by his Tiktok followers.

When he's not out in disaster zones making netizens swoon with his concise but compassionate reporting, Nico also does courtside reporting: a testament to his love of basketball. His hobbies include playing basketball (surprise!) and he also loves hanging out on the beach or hiking in mountains.

While Nico Waje has really just been doing his job, it's his admirers that have worked the hardest to shoot his videos up through the Tiktok algorithm. It can be argued that the comments section of his Tiktok videos is its own form of content, and... we'll let the screenshots tell you the rest.

Nico Waje's Relationship Status
SPOT.ph is sorry (not sorry) to report that yes, Nico Waje is happily married. He and his wife Leinel Waje, who was formerly a colleague in GMA, tied the knot in October 2021. In his news reports you'll see that he regularly wears a wedding ring, although in one Tiktok video, he actually shared that he is allergic to it—to any jewelry, it seems, he says—so he sometimes takes it off to let the skin around his ring finger heal.
And while he seems to appreciate the... flattering comments on his videos, it would do us all good to keep in mind that this beloved news reporter is in fact a happily married man who shares a fur-baby with his wife: a dog named Pringle.
On a more sober note: tropical storm Crising may have passed, but we are still experiencing the effects of tropical storm Dante. While certain reporters might have you feeling the opposite, please keep in mind that staying informed is key to staying dry and safe.
