ICYDK: You Can Build Your Own Carry Om Bag This Weekend

They're functional, wearable art pieces, made from a patchwork of deadstock materials with a whole lot of pockets. The brand is unique in every sense of the word, and they're going to make it even more one-of-a-kind, because it'll be designed by you. You read that right, you have the chance to design your own Carry Om bag this weekend. Here's everything you need to know:

Carry Om is celebrating Khumbmela and bagmaker Yadu Saulo's 50 years of craftsmanship in the best way possible: letting customers get a feel of what it's like to create a piece. In case you didn’t know, it was actually Khumbmela and Yadu’s eponymous brand Yadu Bags that laid the foundation of Carry Om. The bagmaker himself is Carry Om's Technical Director, and his mission of providing durable and sustainable bags lives through Carry Om today.

Yadu’s son, Dhanvan Saulo, is the Managing Director who keeps everything running. Dhanvan's wife, Viktoria Salazar, is the Creative Director behind all the funky colorways and even funkier pocket and zipper configurations.

The event is happening this weekend, June 20 and 21, at Spatio in Opus Mall. The event is open to everyone, and while walk-ins are welcome, you can receive priority access to customization and production and a guaranteed bag slot if you get a VIP ticket online through their website. You can even get a free strap for your Bhumi bag! Here's what to expect:

Attendees can customize their own bag—available bag models include the Bhumi, as well as the medium and large Mala—and they will be paid for during the event. From the color of the main body, pocket, strap, zipper, down to the label, you have all the freedom to choose your shades and textiles. The sky's the limit to the color combinations, ensuring that the already unique bag will be yours and only yours. The price of the bag will depend on the model. The Bhumi is priced at P3,450, and the Mala starts at P6,950.

After finalizing your design, you will be there to witness it come to life. Carry Om's craftsmen and master sewers will build your bag onsite. It's also a one-of-a-kind experience to get to meet and talk to the makers behind every Carry Om piece. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The Mala, if you aren't familiar with the silhouette, is Carry Om's version of a tote bag. Their lightest one yet. It has this rectangular cut that gives your essentials a lot of room to breathe. It's available in medium and large. Oh, did we mention it's reversible? That's like two bags for the price of one! And, in true Carry Om fashion, it can be copped in a lot of cool, vibrant colorways.

Bhumi, on the other hand, is a cylinder bag with a lot of pockets. You can pair it with longer straps from Carry Om's fun selection to expand the many ways you can bring it around. These are the two silhouettes that you can customize this weekend.

Carry Om's Build-A-Bag event is happening on June 20 and 21, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. at Spatio, Opus Mall within the Bridgetowne Destination Estate, Bridgetowne Boulevard corner C5 Road, Ugong Norte, Quezon City. You can check out the full mechanics online through their website.
