LOOK: Designer Carl Jan Cruz Gives Islander Slippers a Vibrant Twist

(SPOT.ph) We may live vastly different lives, but there are cultural doodads and experiences that unite our memory and nostalgia as a people. It's the smell of deep-fried fishballs after a day at school or work, the sweetness of a Serg's chocolate bar, and even Islander's sturdy and reliable slippers that don't ever seem to die. In case you didn't know, Filipino designer Carl Jan Cruz reimagined the beloved tsinelas from Islander to serve gandang head-to-toe realness.

Three vibrant colorways star in the CJC x Islander collaboration, with each pair's multi-colored midsoles stacked higher than usual so you can reach for the stars (or that top shelf). The Oas iteration features Islander's signature midnight blue EVA footbed and an orange nylon strap, while the Guinobatan sports a nightshade EVA footbed with a contrasting turquoise nylon strap. The Polangui rounds the trio out with its purple footbed and red nylon strap. All pairs come with an exclusive Islander-CJC logo on the right foot.

The pairs are launching at the Gandang Head To Toe Ephemeral Store at the Annex House in Makati City on February 14 to 15, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Once the clock strikes five, music by Jasphonica will take over on the first day, while Et Alt is will be in charge of tunes on the second day.

If you've never been to the Annex House in Makati, it's pretty easy to miss. You're at the right place once you spot the rusty steel gate with horns for handles. It might not seem like the right one, but trust us when we say all you need is the confidence to push the doors then you'll know you've arrived.
