Día del Libro 2026 Guide: Activities, Book Fair, Free Spanish Classes + More

(SPOT.ph) World Book Day is just around the corner, and if you’re anything like us, you’re probably looking for a fitting way to celebrate. Sure, curling up with a good book is always a solid choice—but if you’re in the mood for something bigger, this one’s worth penciling in.

Enter Día del Libro, an annual festival dedicated to all things literature (read: books). This full-blown bookish fiesta is coming this April and yes, there's still time to round up the gang and make plans to visit. Here’s what to expect at Dia Del Libro 2026.

Día del Libro—literally “Day of the Book”—is exactly what it sounds like: a full-day celebration of stories, creativity, and literacy. Happening on April 25 at Ayala Triangle Gardens, this open-air lit fest brings together book lovers for a day packed with readings, activities, and all things literature.

Organized by Instituto Cervantes de Manila in partnership with Make It Makati and Ayala Land, the annual event is held to observe World Book Day—a UNESCO-recognized celebration that highlights the importance of books and literature. Originally marked on October 7 in honor of Miguel de Cervantes’ birthday, the date was later moved to April 23, his death anniversary—coinciding with the passing of literary greats William Shakespeare and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega. And since, April 23 is a weekday, celebrations were moved to the nearest possible weekend.

Perhaps the best part of Día del Libro is the fact that there are tons of activities lined up this year. You can drop by the venue anytime from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. and find that there's always something happening. Between free Spanish language classes in the morning, jazz concerts, and a Man of La Mancha theater preview courtesy of Repertory Philippines in the afternoon, and a live concert by Brownman Revival and a DJ session at night, it's going to be a jam-packed day of fun, learning, and community, regardless of when you go.

Some highlights from the day include a book market featuring some of the country's biggest publishers and retailers, as well as university publishing houses and indie outlets. Pro tip: ready your wallets. There will be huge discounts on books sold during Día del Libro. Deals slashing prices by up to 20% are available, with some retailers also offering exclusive book bundles. Think of it as a massive outdoor summer book fair, with other bookish activities such as author meet-and-greets, book signings, talks, and more. Plus, every purchase comes with a rose, a nod to Barcelona's St. Jordi Festival, a.k.a. the Day of Books and Roses, which is also celebrated on World Book Day, April 23.

Then, you can take your newly acquired books and read them on the spot at the outdoor reading picnic that's also a part of the festivities. Plop down on the grassy lawn of the Ayala Triangle and read under the summer sun (or more like under the shade of a tree) and create an outdoor library with your fellow bookworms. The reading picnic runs all day, but early birds can win book bundles curated by Instituto Cervantes de Manila.

This year, Día del Libro is also hosting Books That Matter, a book exchange that has already connected nearly 17,000 people across four countries. The books we read tend to say a lot about who we are, so think of this as your book introducing you to a complete stranger. All you have to do is bring a book that's special to you, swap it in the library, and go home with someone else’s. Wrap up the books you want to exchange and bring them to Ayala Triangle's Open Book Pop-up Library and give a book, take a book, who knows, this might just be the organic encounter you've been looking for.

There will also be workshops such as journal-making by the Design Center of the Philippines, painting with natural pigments, and a Latin dance class. Storytelling activities and poetry readings are also slated for Día del Libro. Safe to say, April 25 will be a busy day for book lovers everywhere. So make sure to mark your calendars and celebrate World Book Day at Día del Libro.
