Heads Up: Direct Flights to Romblon Start This August

(SPOT.ph) Romblon has been drawing more local and international travelers ever since Bon Bon Beach made it to the World’s 50 Best Beaches for two years in a row. While many still see the province as nothing more than a side trip from Boracay, Romblon is a destination in its own right. From island-hopping tours and cliff diving to scuba diving and food adventures, Romblon is packed with experiences just waiting to be discovered.

If you’d like to experience the pristine shores of Bon Bon Beach and the province’s other wonders, we bring good news: direct flights to Romblon start this August. Ever since airlines stopped offering flights to the province, riding a ferry became the only way to visit. But soon, Sunlight Air will be flying non-stop twice a week to Romblon’s largest island. Here’s what you need to know.

Starting August 11, Sunlight Air will launch non-stop flights between Clark and Romblon’s Tablas Island twice a week. This is great news for travelers coming from northern provinces like Bulacan, Pampanga, and Tarlac since they no longer need to travel all the way to Batangas Port to catch a ferry to Romblon’s ports.

Of course, this is still a great option for Manila-based travelers, since travel time to Clark Airport is about the same as to Batangas Port. No matter your starting point, opting for the direct flight instead of a ferry ride also slashes the total travel time by up to 10 hours.

There will be two non-stop flights every Tuesday and Saturday servicing Tablas in Romblon.

Tablas is the latest addition to Sunlight Air’s roster of destinations, following the announcement of direct flights to Siquijor, which began in December 2025. With this new route, it’s getting more and more convenient to embark on a new adventure within the Philippines’ 7,641 islands.

As the largest in the chain of islands comprising Romblon, Tablas is home to some of the most exciting hidden gems and activities in the MIMAROPA region. While you won’t find luxury resorts or chain hotels on the island, it has beachside properties and accommodations that provide essentials for a comfortable stay. But that also means there’s nothing to distract you from your beach time and island adventures.

At its northeast tip lies Tablas Island Blue Hole, the only documented marine blue hole in the Philippines. If you’d like to take your free diving adventures up a notch, this is one spot you should definitely not miss. The Blue Hole is around 10 meters from the surface; you can free dive a few meters to get close to it and peer at its depths. It’s also possible to scuba dive within it — if you dare!

There are also a number of uncrowded and secluded beaches to visit around Tablas, but there are also breathtaking waterfalls if you’d like to do some inland exploration. Mablaran Falls, Busay Falls, and Dulom Falls are all great options for a quick dip to cool down after trekking in Tablas.

Finally, towards the southern part of the island you’ll find Looc Marine Sanctuary, which is home to a protected 48-hectare coral reef area. If you love watching the sea come to life, a boat ride will take you to the pontoon in the middle of the sea, where you can watch fish go on a feeding frenzy. Or, you can jump right in and go snorkeling in the crystal clear waters instead. We know you’ll want to!
