(SPOT.ph) The -ber months are here, and while we're still a little ways away from the holiday rush, September is proving to be busy enough to give December a run for its money. From theater shows to concerts, the live events scene is popping. We've got the low-down on everything you should make time for this month! 

Make September count by plotting out all the shows you’ll be catching. This guide rounds up every must-watch happening this month—complete with ticket prices, seating charts, and all the need-to-know details.

Walang Aray (Ongoing)

Show dates: August 29 to October 12, 2025
Where: PETA Theater Center

Walang Aray is an all-original Filipino musical based on the 1902 sarsuwela Walang Sugat by Severino Reyes. This modern musical upgrade is courtesy of multi-awarded playwright Rody Vera, with its music and lyrics by Vince Lim. Walang Aray refreshes the OG piece's narrative, describing the Filipinos' struggles under 333 years of Spanish occupation by highlighting romantic narratives and satirical storylines laced with social commentary.

Alice in Wonderland (Ongoing)

Show dates: August 23 to December 14
Where: REP Eastwood Theater

Adapted for the stage with music and lyrics by Janet Yates Vogt and Mark Friedman, this RTYA production brings together all the colorful characters from Lewis Carroll’s cherished books, including the ever-curious Alice, the eccentric Mad Hatter, the frantic White Rabbit, and the domineering Queen of Hearts. 

Alice in Wonderland will be headlined by Reese De La Vega Iso, Justine Narciso, and Cheska Quimno as Alice; Cara Barredo, Pinky Marquez, and Mayen Bustamante-Cadd as the Queen of Hearts; Hans Eckstein and Gerhard Krysstopher as the Mad Hatter, and Steven Hotchkiss and Gabo Tiongson as the White Rabbit. It will be co-directed by Cara Barredo and Repertory Philippines founder and artistic director, Joy Virata.

Kaliwaan (Ongoing)

Where: The Mirror Studio Theater

Kaliwaan, a Filipino translation of Harold Pinter’s Betrayal by Guelan Varela-Luarca. This production follows the original plot of Pinter's 1978 drama, which traces the unraveling of Robert and Emma’s marriage after Emma starts an affair with Jerry—Robert’s friend. This play covers nine years that play out in reverse chronological order, which allows audiences to follow along as we see details of the affair, how it blossomed, and how it was inevitably doomed from the start. 

Produced by Stages Production Specialists, Kaliwaan is directed by Loy Arcenas and stars Missy Maramara, Ron Capinding, and Nor Domingo.

The show originally ran in August but was extended with five more shows this September.

Dear Evan Hansen

Show Dates: September 4 to September 21, 2025
Where: The Theatre at Solaire

Dear Evan Hansen is a musical about a high school student Evan who’s dealing with anxiety while also feeling invisible. Things take a turn when a misunderstanding tied to a classmate’s death snowballs into a lie that suddenly puts Evan under the spotlight. As the story unfolds, the musical explores the themes of identity, mental health, and the impact of the stories we tell—both to others and to ourselves. Originally written in 2015, the show features a moving score by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (the same duo behind The Greatest Showman) and a book by Steven Levenson. For its 2025 run in Manila, it’s being staged by the UK touring team from ATG Productions, Gavin Kalin Productions, and Nottingham Playhouse.

Para Kay B

Where: Doreen Black Box Theater, Arete, Ateneo de Manila University

Following a sold-out run in March, Para Kay B is back to give more audiences a chance to relive the Ricky Lee classic and watch its tangled love stories unfold live.

This production—directed by Yong Tapang Jr., by playwright Eljay Deldoc—weaves the entire Ricky Lee novel into one continuous narrative. It brings all five love stories to life as they weave in and out of each other—and into the world of their fictional author, Lucas—making the very process of writing both a central character and a clever storytelling device.

This September run sees Mario Magallona replacing Nicco Manalo as Lucas, Ava Santos as Bessie, Liza Dino, and new cast member Mosang Bagio alternating as Ester, Martha Comia as Irene, Sarah Garcia as Sandra, and Via Antonio as Erika. 

They are also joined by new cast member Phi Palmos as AJ, Manok Nellas and Sarina Sasaki alternating as Sara, Drew Espenocilla as Lupe, Esteb Mara, Jordan Pajara, Jay Gonzaga, Aldo Vencilao, Diving Aucine, and Air Paz.

Pingkian: Isang Musikal

Show dates: September 12, 19, 26, October 3, 10, at 8 p.m., September 13, 20, 27, 28, October 4, 5, 11 at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m., and on September 14, 21, 28, October 12, at 3 p.m.
Where: Tanghalang Ignacio Gimenez, CCP Complex, Pasay City.

Fresh from its sweep at the recently held Gawad Buhay Awards, where this production took home seven major awards—including Outstanding Musical—Pingkian is back for a run this September. 

This full-length production traces the life of Emilio Jacinto—better known as the “Brains of the Katipunan”—as he grapples with leadership, loyalty, and the shifting tides between the Philippine Revolution and the Philippine-American War.

This restaging brings back a powerhouse cast: Vic Robinson as Emilio Jacinto/Pingkian, Gab Pangilinan as Catalina de Jesus and Florencio Reyes, Tex Ordoñez-De Leon as Josefa Dizon, Kakki Teodoro as Jose Rizal, Paw Castillo as Andres Bonifacio, Almond Bolante as Pio Valenzuela, Joshua Cadeliña as Lucio/Isyo, and Marco Viaña as the Duktur.

Dagitab

Where: Power Mac Center Spotlight Blackbox Theater, Circuit Makati

After a two-week run last July, Dagitab returns to the stage in a larger venue. The show follows the marriage of Issey and Jimmy, two professors on the brink of separation after more than 20 years together. This stage production is based on the 2014 Cinemalaya flick Dagitab (Sparks), and was adapted and directed by multi-awarded playwright Guelan Luarca for the stage.

This re-run stars the original cast from July, which includes Agot Isidro and Jojit Lorenzo as Issey and Jimmy, alongside Elijah Canlas, Benedix Ramos, and Samantha Samarita.

Shorts & Briefs

Where: Cafe Shylo, Unit 104, Skyway Twin Towers, Capt. Henry Javier Drive, Pasig City.

On its 11th run, Eksena PH’s Shorts & Briefs (SNB) dives deep into adult territory with six new shows by first-time theater-makers and performers.

The Bodyguard: The Musical

Where: Proscenium Theater, Makati City

The Bodyguard The Musical is a gripping blend of romance, suspense, and spectacular music based on the 1992 flick of the same name. It reimagines the story of Rachel Marron, a global superstar being stalked by an obsessed fan, and Frank Farmer, the former Secret Service agent hired to protect her. As the danger intensifies, an unexpected romance blooms. But as an added twist, all the drama plays out set to Whitney Houston's amazing discography. Expect to hear Houston's hits such as Run To You, Saving All My Love For You, I Wanna Dance With Somebody, Queen of the Night, and many more. 

This Philippine production is directed by Robbie Guevara, with musical direction from Daniel Bartolome.

South Korean pop singer and LOONA alum Yves is coming to the Philippines for the Manila stop of her Cosmic Crispy Tour. It will be the LOONA album's first Asia-Pacific tour as a solo artist, and she's promising explosive performances and a time to connect with fans who've been here since day one of her new chapter. Her viral hit "DIM" is sure to be a crowd favorite and our fingers are crosse she brings out a LOONA song, too!

Coke Studio

Coke Studio is back at the Big Dome with another round of collabs and performances from your fave local artists. For this edition, seven local artists and one international performer are set to rock the Araneta Coliseum: P-Pop boygroup Alamat, rock band Over October, singer-songwriters Ena Mori, Mrld, Alex Bruce, and Dionela, P-Pop girlgroup Bini, and hitmaker LAUV.

American rapper and singer-songwriter Tyler, The Creator is performing in Manila for two nights of lights, bars, and vibes. Filipino fans can finally catch "See You Again," "Rusty," "St. Chroma," and "New Magic Wand" live at his Chromakopia tour, which was named after his 2024 album of the same name.

Can you believe Mayday Parade has been singing their hearts out for 20 years? The band never left our playlists and we're sure plenty of teens who couldn't watch shows back then would be more than eager to spend adult money to buy tickets to watch "Miserable At Best," "Jamie All Over," and "Oh Well, Oh Well" live at their Three Cheers for 20 Years tour.

Smashing Pumpkins

American alternative-rock band The Smashing Pumpkins is coming to Manila for their Rock Invasion 2025 tour with frontman and guitarist Billy Corgan, guitarist James Iha, and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin. Longtime fans have seen different iterations of the band throughout the years, and this show can't be missed. It might be the few chances in this lifetime to catch "1979," "Bullet With Butterfly Wings," "Today," and "Tonight, Tonight" live!
