LOOK: A New Space Mountain + Wreck-It Ralph Ride: Here’s What’s Coming to Tokyo Disneyland in 2027

(SPOT.ph) D23: The Ultimate Fan Experience weekend just concluded in Anaheim, California, and with that comes a slew of updates on all things Disney. You might remember seeing a bunch of new updates on flicks and animations coming out, or even new merchandise headed to Disney stores worldwide, but another thing we're most excited about during D23 season is the park updates—and this year brought tons of updates on Disney Parks on our side of the planet. We've already dropped everything we know about Hong Kong Disneyland's expansion, and now, we're ready to drop more Disney Parks tea.

There's another Disney Park in Asia with lots of new developments coming your way: Tokyo Disneyland. The Japanese theme park is undergoing major upgrades slated to finish by 2027, giving you another reason to head over next year. We know we don't really have to sell you on a trip to Tokyo Disneyland, let alone Japan, but trust us, these updates will make you want to go, stat! Here's everything you need to know about the rides and attractions coming to Tokyo Disneyland in 2027.

It's been two years since Tokyo Disneyland's Space Mountain closed down, much to the chagrin of rollercoaster enthusiasts everywhere. But lo and behold, come 2027, the theme park will reopen the ride —but it won't be the same Space Mountain you know—it's better (or so they say). Introducing Space Mountain: Earthrise.

Much like its predecessor, Space Mountain: Earthrise will be an indoor rollercoaster, but that's about where the comparison ends. The new attraction was completely rebuilt from the ground up. Designed as the anchor of Tokyo Disneyland's revitalized Tomorrowland, Earthrise features a whole new storyline, "rich and dynamic" show elements, and new state-of-the-art mechanisms that will launch riders on their new outer-space adventure.

In the D23 Walt Disney Imagineering Panel, Producer Kathleen Davis walks us through the ride experience: "When you get in the ride, you will board a rocket ship that will blast you into space." She goes on to say that the ride will take guests to new heights and give them an experience of Earth from a perspective "unlike anything seen before in a Disney attraction." A release from the D23 website adds that the new experience is "designed to celebrate the beauty of our planet while inspiring guests to look toward the future."

Another aspect that makes the rollercoaster unique is that the ride vehicles are equipped with onboard audio—a first for a rollercoaster at Tokyo Disney Resort. This fun addition makes the experience more immersive as you get to actually hear the ride's storyline amidst your screams as the ride tosses and turns.

Disney is still mum on the opening date for Tokyo Disneyland's Space Mountain Earthrise but they do assure guests that it will be ready sometime in 2027.

Space Mountain is just one of the new attractions coming to the Japan park. The other big development is a brand new concept also found in Tomorrowland: Wreck-It-Ralph Sugar Rush Sweet Rescue—opening in Spring 2027.

The ride will take guests into the wild, colorful arcade world of the animated flick, where Ralph, Vanellope, and the rest of the gang will need riders' help to defeat King Candy.

In real life, guests will take part in a candy-themed racing game where they will work together with Ralph and Vanellope to stop King Candy's Sugar Bugs from destroying the candy-filled world. Expect an immersive, colorful ride into the world of video games to restore the Sugar Bugs to their kawaii forms. By the way, these Sugar Bugs are all new confectionery characters designed exclusively for the ride.

This is the world's first attraction themed to Wreck-It-Ralph, marking another reason to visit Tokyo Disneyland next year. Oh, and if you're a fan of the movie, you'll be glad to know that in true Disneyland fashion, a shop selling merch inspired by the attraction and the Wreck-It-Ralph animation will be right beside the ride so you can bring home the fun.

Both rides are part of Oriental Land Co.'s—the company managing Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea—massive JPY 100 billion investment to transform Tomorrowland. Alongside the rides, Tomorrowland is getting a massive makeover complete with new restaurants, shops, and even a whole new central plaza.
