A Pinoy Accent Tutorial by Mikey Bustos
The Fil-Canadian dishes out a laugh-out-loud lecture on the oft-ridiculed Pinoy inflection.
Mikey Bustos on the Filipino Accent
There are no F's and V's in the Filipino accent, according to Filipino-Canadian Mikey Bustos. In a YouTube video that has garnered more than 100,000 hits since it was posted on February 25, the former Canadian Idol contestant dishes out a laugh-out-loud lecture on the oft-ridiculed Pinoy inflection in words like plip ("flip"), pollow ("follow"), bictory ("victory"), even libing la bida loca ("living la vida loca"). Even more comical at the 1:55 mark is when the Canadian-born singer shifts to a flawless American accent when he talks about having to learn how to speak the proper way so that kids wouldn’t make fun of him, only to revert back to the Pinoy tone moments later saying, "I neber lost it!"
