Experience the magic of the world-renowned theater company Cirque du Soleil as they visit Manila for the first time to stage Varekai (pronounced ver·ay·’kie) from June 22 to July 8.

The story begins when a wounded young man named Icare (Icarus) drops onto the magical forest of Varekai, which means "wherever" in the Romany language of the gypsies. In the kaleidoscopic world, he meets extraordinary beings such as La Promise (The Betrothed), an exotic beauty who becomes his guiding light; Le Guide (The Guide), a wise old man; and La Vigie (The Skywatcher), a mad scientist, collector of memories and interpreter of signs.

The theatrical extravaganza fuses drama and acrobatics and combines ancient circus acts such as the Icarian games, Georgian dance and water meteors, and more contemporary ones-with Cirque du Soleil’s own twist-like the Russian swings and triple trapeze.

First presented in Montreal, Canada, Varekai has a cast of over 50 artists from 23 countries such as Argentina, Australia and Azerbaijan. It was written and will be directed by Dominic Champagne.

Catch Varekai from June 22 to July 8 at the blue and yellow Grand Chapiteau (Big Top) within Cirque du Soleil’s mobile village to be built in Luneta across the Quirino Grandstand in Manila.
