(SPOT.ph) Repertory Philippines stages "Shakespeare in Hollywood," Ken Ludwig’s comedy set in 1930’s Hollywood, from April 1 to 17 at Onstage, Greenbelt 1 in Makati.
Winner of the Helen Hayes Award for Best New Play in 2004, the play tells of the making of the Warner Brothers 1935 movie version of Shakespeare’s "A Midsummer Night’s Dream." The "real" Puck and Oberon time-travel to 1935 and lands on the set of the movie, just before shooting begins. What follows is a farce that involves the likes of Will Hayes, Joe E. Brown, Jimmy Cagney, Dick Powell, Louella Parsons, Olivia De Havilland, the bimbo Lydia and the Warner brothers.
Director Jaime del Mundo brings together theater actors Hans Eckstein (Oberon), Raymond Concepcion (Puck), Robie Zialcita (Max Reinhardt), Arnel Carrion (Jack Warner), Caisa Borromeo (Olivia), Cris Villonco (Lydia), Miguel Faustman (Will Hayes), Joy Virata (Louella Parsons), Reuben Uy (Dick Powell), Topper Fabregas (Daryl), Rem Zamora (Cagney), and Nic Campos (Joe E. Brown) for the Manila production.
Performances are on Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m. and matinee shows on Saturdays and Sundays at 3:30 p.m.
