CHECK IT OUT: Sew and Tell by Maya Calica Collins at La Pomme

Stringing words and stitching images

(SPOT.ph) Taking the expression "weaving a story" to literal levels, former magazine editor Maya Calica Collins, now a freelance writer, editor, and storyteller, has added "artist" to her list of talents. Sew and Tell is a whimsical take on the classic illustrated children’s storybook, where embroidery replaces traditional illustration. Each stitched piece comes with a short story (or a limerick, in the case of "Hanky Panky"), with the themes teetering from family ties to surreal adventures (like a cat who wants to go to Paris in "The Guilt Trip"). Collins has 15 artworks on display from August 10 to September 10 at La Pomme in The Collective, Makati.
