Gabriel Barredo opens the year for Silverlens with Opera
The genius behind the engrossing kinetic installation from Art Fair Philippines 2013 is out to enchant us once again.
(SPOT.ph) The fact that you’re not familiar with his name is understandable. Gabriel Barredo is a bit of a recluse. If you attended Art Fair Philippines 2013, you probably remember his work. He’s the guy behind the creepy, steampunk-y kinetic installation-"Asphalt"-it occupied an entire section of the carpark-turned-exhibit floor, and was purchased by luxury goods group Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy and the LVMH museum in Berlin, Germany.
We’ll get a glimpse of his genius again at Silverlens, from January 17 to February 14, with Opera. Check out the teasers from the gallery:
It’s hard not to be captivated by the macabre biology presented in Barredo’s work. His works, like a mirror, invites you with the reflection of something familiar yet fascinatingly alien. We don’t want to get too deep, so we’ll quote a character from pop culture: "You wear a mask for so long, you forget who you were beneath it."
