Not Your Ordinary Selfie: Lupam! by Biskeg Pangasinan Artist Collective
Exhibit runs until June 24
(SPOT.ph) Selfies seem ubiquitous now and you may feel just a tiny bit nauseated just thinking about it, but remember, the greatest artists in history also spent many pensive moments trying to capture their own image. Frida Kahlo is adored by many because of her hauntingly honest self-portraits. Vincent Van Gogh has a portrait of himself after he cut off his own ear. If you believe the rumors, Leonardo Da Vinci did it through the "Mona Lisa."
Much can be gained from careful introspection and if you can transcend personal vanity, gazing in the mirror and studying the cracks, wrinkles, and blemishes may even lead to a healthy love for yourself. Think #IWokeUpLikeThis, but even more bare.
In this spirit, Biskeg Pangasinan Art Collective presents Lupam!, which means "your face" in Pangasinan. More than 30 artists participated in this exhibit of self-portraits, which runs until June 24. Swing by at Sining Kamalig Gallery and check out a different kind of selfie.
Sining Kamalig Gallery is at UG/F Ali Mall, Araneta Center, Cubao, Quezon City.
