Catch Sabel the Musical at the Music Museum on June 26 and 27
BenCab's muse comes to life with music and dance
(SPOT.ph) National Artist for the Visual Arts Benedicto "BenCab" Cabrera is on a roll this year as he celebrates 50 Creative Years, with art exhibits, a vinyl toy in the works, and, at its heart, a full-blown musical that tells the story of the character on whom he has devoted much time: Sabel.
Iza Calzado will star as the iconic character who, taking a page from Fiyero of Wicked, decides to dance through it all. Watch her do just that at the Music Museum on June 26 and 27, under the direction of Freddie Santos with music by Louie Ocampo.
Sabel the Musical took a full decade to make, and they put everything in it. During its premiere at The Theatre in Solaire, audiences were dazzled with lights, projected images, and various set pieces. The Philippine Ballet Theater perform a medley of dances accompanied by ballads and rock-ish tunes belted out by Audie Gemora, Aicelle Santos, Bo Cerrudo, Antoinette Taus, and Timmy Pavino—all of whom try to piece together a portrait of misfortune. The melodrama might be fatiguing for some, but if they adapted this into a telenovela, it would be a hit.
