(SPOT.ph) Talent truly runs in the family in the case of the Syjuco sisters. Their latest exhibit entitled Las Tres Marias at the Qube Gallery in Cebu is an exploration of the siblings' individual interpretations of art. Featured are the works of sculptor and accessories designer Michelline Syjuco, painter and performance artist Beatrix Syjuco, and poet and mixed-media artist Maxine Syjuco. The exhibit opens on May 19 and runs until June 7.

The sisters were born into a family of artists: Their father is multimedia artist, painter, poet, and art critic Cesare Syjuco and their mother is painter, installation artist, and performance artist Jean Marie Syjuco. The family's works are currently displayed at Artlab Atelier Cesare and Jean Marie Syjuco, a 400-square-meter glass house at Ayala Alabang, Muntinlupa City.

"Metamorphosis" by Michelline Syjuco

In Las Tres Marias, Michelline showcases her hand-torched brass sculptures. After marrying metal with fire, the sculptures are shaped into what looks like abstracted dragons or winged monsters. Melting the brass not only brings about these forms but it also adds texture to the artworks.

On the other hand, Beatrix creates paintings that show bleak hues and textures, done in mostly black, blue, and white. Each careful stroke and smudge evokes a haunting sense of mystery.

"Fleur Du Mal" by Maxine Syjuco

Maxine presents her mixed-media pieces and installations, with images of women in gowns  whose faces have been turned into something else. They are either white flowers bursting outwards as though they are clouds of smoke or are brown, unruly nests. Then, below the images, phrases like "I was born a rose. A lonely rose," or "No one understood." The combination of images and words reflect Maxine's inclinations as a visual artist and poet.

After this show, the Syjuco sisters will continue to have several exhibits together at Qube, and they will also have a show in Singapore by late 2016.

Las Tres Marias opens on May 19 and runs until June 7 at Qube Gallery. Qube Gallery is at Crossroads, Governor Cuenco Avenue, Cebu City.
