The Quiet Strength of a Woman is revealed in this two-person exhibition

It runs until October 2 at A SPACE, Makati.

( What is the quiet strength of a woman, asks the maiden exhibition hosted by Filipino startup Curious Curator. Ang Maugdang nga Kusog sang Babaye opens tomorrow, September 30 at A SPACE in Makati and shows the contrasting perspectives of two Ilonggo artists on the core of a woman's strength. It features sculptor Harry Mark Gonzales and painter Kat Malazarte, who both consider the female form a favorite subject for their art.

"How I carve shapes and movement is how I appreciate and celebrate the beauty and strength of a woman," said 34-year-old Gonzales. He sculpts cold-cast marble into stunning silhouettes of women. The self-taught artist bagged the Metrobank Art and Design Excellence Awards in 2007 for his terra cotta sculpture called "A Protest over Guimaras Oil Spill."

Things are a bit more spiritual for 21-year-old Malazarte. Inspired by poet and artist Akiane Kramarik who's known for her paintings of Jesus Christ, she captures the mystical quality of the woman through her brush strokes and paintings. According to her, “A woman’s quiet strength is her resilience. That no matter the storms that rage at her life… she, in the end, rises.” Her video entry “Tingnan Nang Malapitan, Damhin Nang Malaliman” won her the Vision Petron National Student Art Competition Grand Prize in 2015.

The 18-piece exhibit is part of the efforts of Curious Curator to expose more artists from outside Metro Manila, especially from Visayas and Mindanao, into the mainstream art scene. The art-collaborative also handles the financial, marketing, and sales aspects of the industry so the artist can focus more on the creation process.

Ang Maugdang nga Kusog sang Babaye (The Quiet Strength of a Woman) runs from September 30 to October 2 at the _GALLERY of A SPACE, 5/F 110 Legazpi Street, Makati City. An Artists' Talk is scheduled on October 1, 2 p.m. For more information, follow Curious Curator on Facebook.
