Leeroy New's "aliens" invade Glorietta Mall

The Treasures of SOX trade fair runs until April 7.

(SPOT.ph) Installation artist Leeroy New is known for his interactive sculptures that range from colorful structures made from tacky household items (as in "Astreopora") to those that serve as humongous lobby decor (as in "Oroborus" at Conrad Manila), and even to a floating installation in the Pasig River.  His series “Aliens of Manila” has also piqued the interest of many. This project involves models in alien-like attire interjecting and inhabiting the city, and directly references a New York-based viral blog site. Suffice to say, this award-winning artist has conquered the Metro through his art.

But despite the themes of urbanities in his works, Leeroy New is actually from General Santos and his hometown couldn't be more proud. "Aliens of Manila" is currently on display at the Activity Center of Glorietta Mall in Makati City until April 7 as part of the 2017 Treasures of SOX: Travel & Trade Expo.

Aside from showcasing its homegrown artists, the SOCCSKSARGEN (South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat and Sarangani) trade fair also promotes its local products such as pineapple, tuna, civet coffee, T'nalak, organic rice, and muscuvado. Resort owners and local tourism operators are also on a mission to advertise the beautiful tourist destinations of the region, such as the white sand beaches in Sarangani, the mesmerizing Lake Holon, and inspiring Baras Bird Sanctuary in Tacurong, among others.
