The Game-Changing Shell Chair Has Been "Garapata-fied"
The Eames chair is reimagined in this cool new exhibit.
(SPOT.ph) Chairs, however mundane they seem, are actually very important in our lives. Get the wrong one and you either have to suffer through a backache or live with an eyesore in your space. In 1950, the delicate balance between a chair's design and function was magnificently combined by designer couple Charles and Ray Eames, when they first produced a one-piece seat-and-back chair that was also comfortable, now known as the Eames Shell Chair. And to pay tribute to this pioneering movement in furniture-making, lifestyle store Mr. Chair and art gallery Vinyl on Vinyl joined forces and put together a show called The Iconic Chair Reimagined. It opens on February 2 at Vinyl on Vinyl Gallery in Makati City.
Nineteen contemporary Filipino artists render their signature style on the vintage chair. This lineup includes Reen Barrera, MM Yu, Martin Honasan, Lynyrd Paras, Alvin Villaruel, Everywhere We Shoot, Van Tuico, Kobusher, Dr. Karayom, Wyndelle Remonde, Wipo, Buboy Cañafranca, Ciane Xavier, Mariano Ching, Jigger Cruz, Luis Santos, Jeffrey Jay Jarin, Chalk Zaldivar, and Garapata. Expect to see the shell chair in vibrant colors or a cool shade of black and white. There's even a "garapata-fied" chair!
The Iconic Chair Reimagined runs from February 2 to 14 at Vinyl on Vinyl Gallery, 2241 Pasillio 18, La Fuerza Compound 1, Chino Roces Avenue, Makati City. For more information, follow Vinyl on Vinyl on Facebook.
