A Jose Mari Chan Musical Is Coming This Year

(SPOT.ph) Unless you've been living under a rock and outside the Philippines, you are well aware that each time September rolls in, Jose Mari Chan starts taking over every speaker and sound system in the country. As if that isn't enough of a takeover, this holiday season, JMC a.k.a. Mr. Christmas himself is about to take over the theater stage too. 

This is not a drill: Repertory Philippines is staging a Jose Mari Chan musical this year. Get ready to "see girls and boys selling lanterns on the streets" in a new light as the music of JMC comes to life in Going Home to Christmas: A Jose Mari Chan musical opening this November.

Here's what we know about the upcoming Jose Mari Chan musical

Going Home to Christmas: A Jose Mari Chan musical—Repertory Philippines' first-ever original jukebox musical—opens on November 29 at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium in the RCBC Plaza in Makati City. 

"It will feature 14 of my songs. I'm looking forward to this very much, and I'm so excited and I hope you are too," says JMC himself in a video posted by Palanca-winning screenwriter Eric Cabahug.

Going Home to Christmas follows the story of six couples who got stranded in the airport on their way home for the holidays. In Christmas movie fashion, this unexpected circumstance becomes an opportunity for the characters to "find themselves, find love, and rediscover the true meaning of Christmas." And as if that's not enough to tug on your heartstrings, Jose Mari Chan's smooth ballads and classic crooning will provide the soundtrack to each of the couple's heartwarming stories.

This musical is Repertory Philippines' closing show for its 2024 season. For this endeavor, REP has tapped distinguished director, actor, and set designer Leo Rialp to direct the show while theater actor Jeremy Domingo will be assistant director. The musical is written by Robbie Guevara, Luna Griño-Inocian, and Joel Trinidad, with additional scenes by Cathy Azanza-Dy.

As of writing, official ticket prices to Going Home to Christmas have not yet been announced. But don't worry Spotters, we'll keep our eyes peeled for more information about this
